Additionally, suppositories are also available for numerous drugs. Our Kris used to call it: her little torpedoes.
Europeans are much more prone to request suppositories and I often have found Americans quite resistant to this approach. Just a thought and it may very well not be plausible at this time for your daughter but, I thought to put it out there anyway.
    Please, stay in touch.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

    Hi,
If you can ask the doctor what is the result of the” swallow evaluation”; then you may have some idea why she cannot swallow. Most of the doctor will order that swallow evaluation when patient cannot eat or drink or swallow while they were in the hospital in U.S.
Zofran comes as ODT oral dosage form and you can just put it over your daughter’s tongue and it will dissolve itself into the blood stream without swallowing;it is for nausea and vomiting.Other medications like dexamethasone and reglan do come in liquid oral dosage form.
As a patient,I can say no matter how mild the side effects are; chemo is absolutely not a pleasant experience no matter what drugs are used.
    God bless.

    Hi Ichase,

I am sorry to hear about your daughter right now and what she is going through. As your daughter is in the hospital right now, could you speak with the doctors there to see what they can do to help with your daughter not being able to swallow her meds? My dad had a problem with his nausea and he was bringing up all of the meds that he had taken before they were able to work. He could swallow them but he wasn’t able to keep them down long enough to work. So he was given an anti-nausea med that he could place under his tongue and let it dissolve there without him needing to swallow it. I think it was caled Buccastem.

Perhaps also suppositories may be of help to your daughter? Here are some links that may be of use.

    Hi,

Can’t the drugs be prescribed in liquid form, and then given orally through a syringe? Or even in skin patches. I would urgently get in touch wilth the Doctor/District Nurses.

    Best wishes

lchae, sorry to hear about this. Not sure why that would happen and the only suggestion I can give is crushing the pills and putting them in something like applesauce, pudding or etc. I would advise the doctor and see what he may suggest. Best of luck and good wishes.

Our daughter has been hospitalized once again began she can not swallow the pain or anti nausea medicines. She is also not eating or drinking, we are on the beginning of the third round of chem. The tests are not revealing any reason that she can not swallow the meds. Has anyone else experienced this? We started her on TPN at home in an effort to keep her home and out of the hospital.
