Duke, Duke, Duke…leave it to you to reflect on everything with one more profound statement, like “looking for the light” and finding it here in everyone. There are those here who will carry your message forward, but none of us could do it with your clarity….cutting to the chase. I can’t begin to count the times you brought me back to earth and got me focused again during all that crap last year. You’ve always stressed what is important…..to keep the eye on the prize. And….even when you’re not at your fullest, you still say in few words what we all need to hear. My friend, go softly into the dark night….knowing the help you’ve given, the lives you’ve changed. I’m so proud and fortunate to have met you and call you my friend. We will see you again some day down the road…so until then, see ya later alligator. (Here’s where you say, “After while, crocodile.”) I’m going to be watching for another post from you, and hope you will feel well enough to write one. But, if you don’t, I’ll be watching for that lucky penny to show up at my feet one day…and I’ll know it is you telling me you’re okay.

    Dear Duke,

I read this post very early this morning, and took a while (many hours) on how I could possibly respond that might convey how much you mean to all of us. So, this evening, I started looking back on your posts over the years. You shared so much of yourself; I loved the joke about the Lone Ranger and comments on not having to shave your legs. There were so many that made us smile and so many that made us appreciate what we have and those who love us.

For an engineer, surprisingly you really can express yourself so well, so please forgive me for using you own words to try and express how I feel.

“Hold the torch high so the rest of us can follow you.  We can’t physically help you along but know that our thoughts and prayers go out to you.  When you need strength, close your eyes and open your mind – we’re there for you, just like you’ve been there for us.”

And, it is so true as you stated that once you are part of this family, you are always part of this family.

Thoughts, love, prayers and hugs are with you and your family,
    Catherine

    Dear Duke,

As the others have said to you, you will always have a place here with us and here in all of or hearts for ever. Not only have you touched and helped all of us here but so many many others around the world who read your posts but do not post or have not joined as members. The effect you have had on so many people is huge and you will always be with us all.

You have fought all of this with strength, dignity, courage and of course humour as well. And yes, we most certainly will keep up the fight.

Thinking of you and all of your family right now.

    Hugs to you,

    Gavin

Dearest Duke, the man we have all known as “Duke” IS still here and how like you to bid us farewell. I do hope you are comfortable as you complete your journey and I wish for you to meet Teddy and Percy. You will have a front row seat watching us and watching over your family.
This is so eerie but it is 4AM in Phoenix and I just could not go back to sleep. Something compelled me to come on the computer and the CC site. How like our Duke to send us this message not to fear the relocation but to accept it with grace and dignity. Know that you have touched so many lives and you may not be here physically but you will never be forgotten. Some day I hope to meet you in eternity.

    From You, Duke to Aimee:

If I should be the first to go,
And leave you alone, my Dear,
Let not your heart be lonely,
Nor in your eyes a tear.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
    I’ll not be far away,
With petals of love and tenderness,
I’ll pave for you the way.
To join me in our sanctuary,
    And ne’er again we’ll part.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
    I live within your heart.
    Take joy again in living,
    As you did in years gone by;
God knows what of he’s doing,
    And not be questioned why.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
My life with you on earth
    Each moment filled with happiness,
And love so few be worth.
I’ll be waiting for you Sweetheart
    Where skys are ever blue,
With eager heart and open arms
    Patiently, for you.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
May faith and my love keep.
    Your soul filled with contentment
    Eternally, I’ll sleep.

You must excuse me I am not at my fullest. I have been fighting about how how
to deal with with death. I think I am going to go back to my original thought of fighting dignity with not desperation. I am at that point now, Accepting with dignity, not desperation.

A friend asked me what what I would do I if I could could change my life and I had no answer. In short I guess that means I have have have done pretty much I intend to in the near term – plans but no actions.

I started looking for the white light – I found one here, among all of you. Not sure what that means but we have to let go – it’s time.

My love to all, I may post once of twice more but don’t plan on it. Keep up the fight.
