Surfer, I’m sorry to hear how difficult things have become during your husband’s treatment. I’m sending prayers to ease his side effects from treatment.

MarionOctober 5, 2015 at 9:44 pm #89976lainySpectatorDear Surfer, I am so sorry to read about what you and your husband have been going through. My husband had Cyber Knife that worked for 2 years and then the CC returned. I sure hope the other ONC can come up with another treatment plan. I know this is a very hard time for you both and I am sending prayers and good wishes for something to work for him. Also sending you a huge cyber hug!
October 5, 2015 at 9:30 pm #11751surfer1SpectatorQuick background on my husband:
*july 2013 abdnormal bloodwork prompted his PCP to order ultrasound and redo bloodwork. Ultrasound confirmed a mass in his liver.
*september 2013 diagnosed with ICC with a 6 cm tumor after two biopsies and started Gem/Cis. Consulted with three doctors regarding surgical prospects (UC Irvine, USC, and Cedars Sinai)
*january 2014 had portal vein embolization surgery at Cedars Sinai.
*april 2014 had trisegmentectomy resection at Cedars Sinai. Found two additional satellite tumors close to the main tumor. All three were removed. Had gem/cis afterwards.
*july 2014 scan clean
*october 2014 scan showed three new tumors.
*december 2014 Started cyberknife treatments with xeloda after insurance approvals. He had two rounds of treatments that lasted five days each and finished in March 2015.
*march 2015 started Gemzar/xeloda combination.
*may 2015 scan showed most tumors were the same, one larger, one smaller.
*june 2015 another five day round of cyberknife to treat additional tumors. Total of thirteen tumors treated in the three rounds.
*september 2015 scan shows increase in tumor count and size. Tumors present in lungs and lymph no nodes as well. Told this is terminal. Stopped chemo since it obviously isn’t working. A few days later asked if we wanted to try Gemzar/oxilaplatin combo. We have seen another oncologist at Cedars Sinai for a second opinion on chemo options. This combo was recommended if the Gemzar/xeloda wasn’t working. The swog trial that might have been an option was closed at the time for toxicity issues.
He has had a tough time with Gemzar/oxilaplatin. Bloating, fatigue and nausea mostly.
This has been very discouraging and there isn’t much hope for things to stabilize or improve. We see our oncologist again tomorrow and will ask again about trial options but realize that even those aren’t likely to offer a cure.
