Hello Michelle….I also hope that your Dad can find some relief and be allowed to come home.
Michelle, Hospice Care also is called: “Comfort Care.” It is in your power to dismiss their services if and when you choose to do so. As Gavin has mentioned the care given by Hospice is unsurpassable.
My heart is with you,
Best wishes are heading your way,

If the stent doesnt work, you might want to ask if they can perform surgery to open his digestive tract back up. I had the procedure and after a week or so of recovery, I was eating and keeping things down.Losing weight is not a good sign and doing things to prevent it will help your dad feel better.
Hope things improve.

I’m also sorry to hear that your Dad has taken a turn for the worst. Its a difficult time for you and your Mum – you are all in our thoughts at this time. We pray the new stent does the job and your Dad starts to recover.Take care…………………………..Gerry
July 1, 2010 at 1:12 pm #39483gavinModeratorHi Michelle,
Thank you for giving us an update on your dad. I am sorry to hear you say that he has taken a turn for the worse over the last 4 weeks and that his CC is growing at a quicker pace. Hopefully the stent in his duodenum will work so that he can eat some food.
I can understand your mums reluctance to contact hospice, but you are right in that they will be able to help you all. I have nothing but good things to say about hospice care and the care that my dad received from them when he was in hospice care. Nothing was too much trouble for them when it came to dads care and it did give everyone a peace of mind knowing that my dad was in the best possible care. My dad said to me many times that he felt comfortable under their care.
I do hope that you manage to get your dad home from the hospital tomorrow and I am sure that he will be glad to get home. After all, there is nothing like home and hopefully getting home will add to his strong spirit.
My best wishes to you, your dad and your mum,
Gavin
July 1, 2010 at 9:06 am #3718micsylSpectatorHi everyone
It’s world cup time here for us, but i have finding it hard to be in the “spirit” of things. Just to update you: Dad, 72, diagnosed 6 march 2009, dad has had numerous stents, 17 hospital admissions – the last 4 weeks have seem him really take a turn for the worse – the CC which was slow growing has now started to grow at a rapid pace – in two weeks it has invaded the duodenum, as a result dad could not hold any food down, not even swallow his own saliva! He was admitted again, the docs put in a duodenal stent, he managed some food this morning. He his down to 43 kgs, but his spirit is so strong! The dr’s have told us his condition is “very serious”. There is a reluctance on my mom’s part to contact Hospice – which i know will help us all. We hope that Dad will be discharged tomorrow…not to sure what lies ahead ….and how things will progress now, but i am praying for a miracle. I am not always able to access the forum but i do follow on my cellphone and then when i am back at school, i am able to contribute, please know that i am praying for everyone on this forum, thanks for everything.
lots love, prayer and strength
Michelle
