Elmoks, you are a wonderful daughter and your Mom is lucky to have you by her side on this journey. When we got to the end so to speak, Teddy developed a love of a scrambled egg or a bowl of chicken soup and somtimes he also liked canned peaches. If he asked for something I would make it and there were times he just didn’t want to eat it but I never said a word. Water is important and like Marion said swabbing the lips. You can buy packets of “swabbers” at the Pharmacy or ask Hospice for them. I would ask Teddy if he was hungry as he seemed not to think of telling me. Most of the time he was not. Bottom line…anything and anyway that makes it comfortable for them. Stay strong you are doing just great.

I agree with Pam. You are a fantastic support to your Rockstar Mom. Placing something in front of her might just entice her to take a bite especially, if it is something she loved to eat previously. Don’t be disappointed should your Mom not want to eat. It is all about Mom wanting to feel comfortable though, you may want to make sure though that her lips are moistened.
All my best wishes are heading your way,
    Marion

We were told the same thing by Hospice. Small amounts of food and drink…basically anything my dad wanted he got. He loved cold peaches and ice cream in the end. We’d bring little bowls and if he wanted more we got it for him. He didn’t eat much either and were told not to overwhelm him with big amounts. I love your attitude about your mom being a rock star! You are doing a great job!

I haven’t been on here in….well along time. Sometimes I’m just not sure what I want to say. My mom (aka ROCK STAR) is still holding her own. Several times we have thought it was her time to go to Heaven, but some how she has the strength to come back to us. Death is a crazy thing…. a wild ride if you will. This week mom has been sleeping most of the day. She usually gets up in the morning to go to the bathroom, but then gets right back in bed and stays there until the following morning. She isn’t eating much either. In the last few days she has a few bites here and there, but that’s it. It’s so hard to not offer her food, but Hospice assures us that we should let her direct us. Um, I think the ROCK STAR has partied too long and is just too tired to tell us if she wants to eat or drink, but hey just my opinion. What has everyone else, that’s been in this situation, done?
