I have no side effects from it at all. I was originally given the tablet form, but I was so sick at the time that I would throw it up before it did any good. They then put me on melt in the mouth tablet. It is yummy, kind of like a Flintstone vitamin. I must say that I look forward to taking it!
It is considered a proton pump inhibitor and is in the same class of drug as prilosec. You can get that over the counter in the USA, not sure about Canada so you might want to look and give it a try,

One of the listed side effects are tiredness, but seeing as my dad gets so tired so easily it is hard to know it the Lansoprazole is adding to this or not. But he doesn’t seem to be showing any other side effects of the drug.
Best wishes

My mom has been complaining about heartburn so this might be a good lead. Are there any adverse side effects from the lansoprazol?
Thanks!
November 8, 2009 at 9:21 pm #32873gavinModeratorThanks for that Kris. My dads tumour is growing around a tube that comes out of the stomach and perhaps this is responsible for his lower back pain. Like you, he was prescribed Lansoprazol once a day and his back pains have not been as bad these last few weeks since he started taking it.

November 7, 2009 at 7:49 pm #32872devoncatSpectatorJust a thought….I had upper back pain when I was having severe gastric problems/heartburn when my tumor blocked my stomach. I was given lansoprazol and I havent looked back since. It has really helped. No more back pain!

Thanks for that. My dad is getting some pains every so often in his upper front right quadrant area so I’m wondering if it could be related to his spinal cord nerve endings. His paind meds also seem to keep that pain in check though. Thanks for that.
Sharon,
Sorry for jumping in on your thread. My dad gets pain in his lower back area, usually a dull ache, and also a very sharp shooting pain in his lower back that goes away as quick as it comes on. Pains meds help with the dull ache, but he doesn’t take anything for the sharper pain since it goes away quickly.
Sorry I can’t be of more help with the upper back pain. Hope you can get some help here for your mum.
Best wishes

November 6, 2009 at 3:11 am #32869marionsModeratorSharon….my husband also experienced upper quadrant shoulder pain. And, it was related to nerve endings in the spinal cord. Similar to your Mom, the pain appeared sporodically and was easily controlled with pain medications and the use of a heating pad. JeffG had spoken of it frequently also. I don’t recall for anyone (on this board) not being able to control the pain.
Others may have more to share with you, also.
Best wishes,
MarionNovember 6, 2009 at 1:12 am #2859sharon_teammarianMemberHi All,
My mom is feeling a bit under the weather today (there is a bit of a bug going around) and was complaining of pain in her upper back. She has been complaining of shoulder pain (she had her right shoulder replaced a few years ago) over the past few weeks that comes and goes. From reading many posts, the pain in her shoulder seemed like it could be from the cancer as much as from her past surgery. But today is the first time she’s mentioned a pain that sort of radiated across the whole upper back region.
We massaged her shoulders and gave her a warm “comfort” pad and some pain medicine which seemed to help. A little later she seemed fine.
I did a search on the site but there were only a few posts on upper back pain.
Has anyone else experienced the pain across the top of the back?
As always, thanks for any guidance and insight
Sharon
