For those suffering CCA with molecular testing results, know that USC (Dr. Lenz) has successfully treated a 40 year old man with a clinical trial meant for breast cancer patients.

The patient was treated first with FOLFOX and after it failed after 8 months (it puzzles me why do people have to fail chemo first??) he entered the clinical trial and fast forward 3 years he is now cancer free.

In the article the patients mentions having digestive issues since he was 29 years of age with some surgeries to remove liver and gall stones. Then more symptoms and when the cancer diagnoses was made he sought 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinion until he landed with Dr. Lenz at USC. Dr. Lenz was quick to respond and ordered a port within days and chemo started within a week of appointment. The article didn’t mention which company or test he used for the molecular profiling but it was discovered it was HER2.

Here is copy of the article from USC Cancer Norris Center…Hope this helps and the moral of the story is 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions are a must; Molecular Testing + MSI is a requirement not an option; and treating with a knowledgeable and comprehensive cancer center can make a difference.
