Marions and Devoncat. Thank you so very much for taking the time to shed some light on this situation and replying. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks again for your kindness. Fern

I believe that the high potassium levels are related to the kidney functions something, you might want to discuss with the oncologist. I would assume that this will have to be controlled before your Mom is able to have chemotherapy. Take a note pad or a little tape recorder. The information coming your way will be extensive and can cause you to feel overwhelmed. I would assume that your Mom will set the tone of the conversation and you would want to be sensitive to that. If you feel that some of your questions have not been answered then you might want to ask the physician for permission to speak with him per phone. And, stay strong. Your Mom is leaning on you and you in turn may lean on us. Others may have more information coming your way.
All my good wishes are coming your way,
    Marion

My potassium plummets with dehydration. It makes me sick, weak, and slightly confused. I dont really know about high potassium.

    Questions for onc…
What dose and for how long?

Will chemo be given at the same time?

What side effects and when do these require medical attention?

When will be the follow up scan?

Will blood tests be taken regularly to check on liver function and general health?

I need to go back and look in my notebook to see what other questions I asked my doctor.

My mother has been told her cancer is unresectable. Her only options are chemo and raidation. They say she is not candidate for internal radiation because of the portal vein. Can anyone suggest questions for me to ask him tomorrow? Also what does high potassium levels mean? Does this have anything to do with this Klatskin tumor/cholangiocarcinoma? TY
