I’m on my third cycle of xeloda and oxaliplatin. With my cold sensitivity, I get numbness and tingling in my mouth with the air conditioning. We just keep the house at about 75 on those days, and I work from home. It goes away day 5-6 for me. I also get muscle spasms and some hand and feet tingling for the first week. MUCH less nausea than I had with gem/cis, so that’s good. Good luck with it!
July 30, 2015 at 11:18 pm #89090marionsModeratordmiller….happy belated Birthday. In addition to the great advice already given I wanted to mention that some people wear gloves when touching anything cold.
Good luck to all participants in this clinical trial.
Hugs

I have only had one cycle of the Oxi and the cold sensitivity did start right away. It went away about 4-5 days later. I just drank room temperature beverages and wore gloves to get things out of the freezer. The air conditioning didn’t seem to bother me and its 95 in Ohio right now so we have it blasting!!
Good luck!

July 27, 2015 at 12:03 pm #89088susanbradenSpectatorDarlene, I’ve been on oxaliplatin for treatment for 6 cycles now (every 2 weeks) tomorrow is #7. The cold sensitivity -for me- fades at day 5 following infusion. It starts about 30 min. Into treatment. Feeling/tasting metallic sensations in my mouth. Drinking cold feels very sharp in my throat – like swallowing glass. Touching something from the fridge or freezer feels like you almost stick to the item. And make sure you run water to warm before washing hands, etc. best advice I have is keep room temp juice bottles, water, etc, to drink, and have gloves at the sink, near the fridge, and wear socks around the house and to bed in air conditioning. Keep track of how long the sensitivity lasts. The sensitivity isn’t the same as full blown neuropathy. Keep a sense of humor through it. Know it’s coming and laugh and live through it. I like to visualize it’s freezing my cancer on the inside. And I’m having remarkable shrinkage in my ICC tumors in my liver. (I’m in a trial at Sloan with the HAI pump combined with systemic gem/oxy). I have a 4 year old granddaughter who thinks I turn into Elsa from Frozen during these days. And anything that makes me extra “cool” in her eyes, is worth the physical inconvenience! Email me if you want to. Good luck with the new course- and happy birthday!!
SusanJuly 27, 2015 at 1:14 am #11540dmiller5840MemberI am going to start xeloda and oxiliplatin on Thursday 7/30, my birthday. After reading many posts and information about the side effects I have to say I am scared to death. I know it’s possible I may only get some or maybe none but who knows it could be several. This cold sensitivity really scares me. I live in Florida and we run the air conditioning alot. My work is very cold and i drink and eat a lot if cold stuff. I am also worried about stomach pain. My first and second time doing chemo was gemzar and cisplatin. The worse side effect I had was severe stomach pains 3-4 days after and difficulty eating. Then I did 2 radiation treatments and an unsuccessful liver resection. Due to estates to the peritoneal cavity we are trying this new chemo treatment. How bad are the side effects? Do thry last the whole time or just for a couple days after? Anything you can tell me about this chemo regimen would be appreciated.
