momof3……Personally, I don’t see much difference with either of the approaches. We don’t have large scale studies supporting the application of either, but many have been treated with chemo- or radioembolization.
Again, and this is the unfortunate of the situation, you must make the decision based on unknown outcome and if indeed your husband’s health status is able to tolerate either treatment.

For those of you who may not have read my intro, my 49 year old husband was diagnosed with stage 4 in February. He had a few rounds of gem/CIS which he was tolerating well until his stent clogged (it was replaced with a metal one) and he developed DVT a few weeks later. With treatment interrupted and platelets that just wouldn’t recover at a rapid enoug rate, the liver tumors have grown significantly over the last 8 weeks and his physical and mental state have decreased at the same time. He now uses stair lifts and a walker to get around the house and he interacts with us less and less.
Last week it was decided to discontinue chemo and begin hospice. Today we met with the doctors at Penn who are offering a nerve block, in addition to either chemoembolization or radioembolization with the goal of pain reduction and hopefully tumor size reduction.
Other than the radioembolization seeming to be a lengthier process (as opposed to the chemoembolization they said they can do Monday) it’s very unclear to me as to whether one offers more benefit than the other. I’m trying to make my way through the information on the board and from other resources, but your insights would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Gail
