    Heather,
My husband was told the same thing. Then we went to Johns Hopkins. He got Gemzar for 10 mos. and responded miraculously. (His oncologist’s words) Tomorrow he will have a liver resection at Hopkins. Last year he was an “open & close”. Faith in God is the best treatment tho. Never lose it! Best to you and your dear husband.

    Heather,
I am so happy for you and Lee. It is wonderful that he is responding so well to chemo. Butch and I are at UPMC – see the Doctor tomorrow about possible liver resection – we , also, as you know – were told by Mayo that Butch had weeks to months to live. Butch is doing fine. The first rounds of chemo brought his numbers down, and tomorrow we will be scanning that dreadful tumor. It is truly wonderful what the Lord can do, and I look forward to hearing more good news from you.

Well folks, as we look back on our trip to Mayo in Rochester in April, we chuckle…”You have 2 months if not less to live.” It has now been a little over 2 months and have returned from an awesome beach stay in San Diego. Lee even got on a big ol’ motorcycle and took it for a little spin! We started the 2nd cycle of Gemzar yesterday with 17 more treatments to go. Dr. said he is delighted with Lee’s progress. His bili count is normal as well as alkaline…red blood cell down…so painful shot given again…he gained one more pound…going from 87lbs. to 105 now…Dr. Mathern claimed that most people don’t respond as well as Lee is…I can only atest to the power that the Lord has…Dr. Mathern even said he thought that that must be the case…after the last round with chemo a CT scan will be done…aside from Sunday being his absolute worst day, extreme diarreha and vomiting…he is now on a regimn of ativan, prochlorper and amzemet which pretty much keeps him in a coma for most of the day…he has some gum problems and hand infection losing some of his nails on the left side….we have absolutely nothing and I mean nothing to complain about. I simply cannot believe that a Dr. even has the ethical right to tell a patient that he has “so long to live.” Maybe it’s to make a patient more determined than ever to fight…we don’t know….but we do know that our faith in God has given us a testimony that is truly amazing…my daughter still has her daddy and I still have the love of my life…we are proof positive that 2nd and 3rd opinions from doctors are imparative, trust in the Lord is a must and don’t always believe what the “big guns” tell ya!

    Love,
    Heather
