Brian died peacefully in his sleep yesterday a few hours before my partner landed in Perth.
He’s now with his Mum and one of his other brothers arrives on Wednesday.
Thanks for all your support x

My partner flies tomorrow night and his Mum knows he is coming which is, I hope, almost as good as him being there. One brother will come later, the one in the US hasn’t said. I may go for the funeral.

I’m glad that he’s making his own decisions. He’s also been moved into the bigger of the 2 palliative care room, which is good.

    Thanks both.
He’s been offered palliative radiotherapy, but refused it, as he doesn’t want to prolong things. Also he’d have a 90 minute journey for the radiotherapy which would be tough.
The sons haven’t traveled yet, but my partner would like to be there before he dies, if possible. They’ve been told he might only have 4-5 days left, but he varies a lot and, as he’s shown before, has a lot of resilience.

He’s gone downhill a lot, although rallied a bit and his wife is staying at the hospital tonight.

A relatively positive update. The pressure has been relieved from his stomach, he’s no longer feeling nauseous and he’s feeling better than he’s felt all week. He has a tube into his stomach, an IV drip for hydration and a catheter, but is much more conformable.

    Thanks both.
Marion, we’ll try and make sure this is done, but it’s difficult form here and his Dad doesn’t like us ‘calling the doctors and wasting their time’
Lainy, he’s had some very good weeks since he was last in hospital, pretty much normal, so in many ways he’s been lucky.

He has secondaries in his liver and his digestive tract is blocked. He’s been moved to palliative care in his local hospital.

Thanks Lainey, we had hoped so too and have been planning a proper trip to Oz next April. However I always reckoned that it was 50/50 that something would happen before then…..

    Hello,
I have a wee update. Brian had a scan last Friday and is due to see his oncologist tomorrow. My partner spoke to him at the weekend and all was well.

However we found out yesterday that he has been readmitted to hospital as he is unable to keep any food down. He’s not losing any blood this time, but any food comes straight back up. At least this time his oncologist is seeing him and that appointment is still tomorrow. We’ll know more then.

Thank you all for your support.

Rob spoke to his Dad at the weekend and he’s feeling really well. He has another scan next month and then an appointment with the oncologist, so we’ll take it from there. Is seems that his tumour is very slow growing and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere else at the moment.

Thanks Lainey. He was a forester, so it’s what he does. :-)
Thanks for the support, we are crossing our fingers that things are quiet for a while now and are planning to visit next year.

Rob’s Dad seems to be pretty much back to normal (and is chopping logs again…..sigh)
He’s seen his oncologist and will have a scan and next appointment next month. Remarkable turnaround. We don’t know what caused the bleed, but whatever it is seems to have healed.

Thanks Lainy, I’m not sure what happens next, but I hope that they will ask for more investigation. The regional hospital seemed to overlook the fact that he’d had surgery less than 3 weeks before this happened.

Well this is an unexpected update. Rob is coming home. His Dad’s bleeding has stopped for 24 hours and when they (finally) took his blood pressure it was normal. He’s going to carry on sleeping at the hospital and coming home during the day. He’s still been able to walk on a frame and has been chatting with visitors.
He hasn’t had a traumatic bleed for over 10 days and we are no further forward in knowing what the problem is, but for the moment things are better.
I still have a suspicion that this might have been related to the stent replacement a few weeks ago.

Thanks Gavin….it’s such a long way away. He left at 2.15 yesterday afternoon and he’s still not there
