    Hi Kris,
I agree with you that the hospital is no place to rest and recover. Its always so wonderful to get home and sleep in my own bed. At the Cleveland Clinic, the day starts at about 5:30am with blood work and then the doctors start their rounds. I’m still on hospital time and find myself waking up at 5am most mornings. I’m so happy when I remember I’m back home and I can roll over, snuggle up with my dog and go back to sleep :)

    Hi Mary,
Thanks for thinking of me. I will find out next Monday if the hole has repaired itself. The last time I went, 4 weeks ago, the doctors were encouraged and said it was healing. Its been a struggle regaining my health. I was hospitalized 2 times recently – both due to an absess formed from bile leaking from the hole – which then got into my blood stream and I became septic. Oh my gosh. I’ve never been so sick or scared in my life. I’ll spare you the details unless you think it would be helpful. Anyway, for now, I’m feeling a little better – have 2 bags – one draining the absess and the other one draining bile. Just had my PICC line removed (Yeah!) and I’m onto oral antibiotics.

    How are you?

    Merilee,
Glad you were able to find some info. on Dr. Fung. If you decide to contact Dr. Sands, feel free to use my name. He has been out for a couple of weeks but should be back in today.

I can recommend my team of doctors at the Cleveland Clinic – Main Campus. Dr. John Fung is my surgeon and Dr. Mark Sands is my interventional radiologist. I have been with them through many ups and downs since Jan. 2009. Goto the Cleveland Clinic website for more information on these doctors.

Thanks for your quick responses. Yes, I am Betsy from Cleveland. The stricture is right at the point where the bile duct was sewn into my intestine – the hole is a little bit away from the stricture moving back towards my liver. I don’t believe the hole was casued by the dilatation. If I can recall correctly (I’ve had so many drugs, who can keep it straight!) the doctors have suspected a leak but haven’t been able to find it until now but that is starting to not make sense to me. So maybe it did happen with the dilatation. And yes, surgery would be a huge deal. My surgeon doesn’t even want to have to do it. I would have to be cut wide open again, some of the liver would have to be removed to get to the bile duct…I can’t even bear to think about it. After my resection I also had a tear and I did go on “TPN” (IV meds) for 2 weeks but still wound up with a stent. I did manage for 6 months without a stent and I thought I was out of the woods. By the way, how many bile ducts are there? I am down to 2.
