Hi, I have been on chemo for 2 years now, 6 month with Gemzar and Cisplatin and 18 months and still am with Gemzar. All cases are different.t but chemo for me has controlled the tumor. They also did transarterial chemo mobilization which is putting chemo drugs directly on the tumor through a vein in your groin. It is quite effective and they can do it numerous time if needed. You may want to ask your oncologist. Wishing you good luck.

    Hi Fay
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I am a CC patient at MD Anderson. My oncologist is Dr Kaseb. They have a good reputation.  If you go on their website you can learn more on the doctors. Best wishes to your mom.</p>

Thank Gavin, this time I am having nausea and vomiting so taking Zofran. It is a different chemo drug. Last 3 TACE I didn’t have any side affects. It will pass .

I am waiting for an appointment.  In the meantime, I am not having chemo until 22 November which means I will have had a break of 1 month.  The intermediate doctor who sees me before chemo cancelled the one I was supposed to have last week because I was having the scan and my next one is 22 Nov. Not sure why they do that except that maybe it is because I am supposed to have the ablation. I just wonder if not having chemo for a while might make the tumors grow some more.

I seem to get a headache after my chemo with Gemzar, it goes away after a few days.  Not sure if it is from the Gemzar or the nausea med they put in before the Gemzar.

Have you tried with a referral from her current oncologist? That is how I was able to get treated by MD Anderson.

    Thanks Mary,

I must admit I have not felt this physically worn out in a long time. Sure hopes it works. I did read about the symptoms yesterday so not worried. I am not very good at slowing down so I am a bit frustrated but my body is telling me to chill. I have chemo on Tuesday . It has been 2 1/2 years since this CC started and so far it is being controlled and staying in one place so can’t complain. The Gemzar by weekly chemo treatment is not bad, could be worse. I just get a bit weary sometimes.

Same here. My CC was discovered with a sonogram while they thought I had a gall bladder problem due to mild abdominal discomfort for a year. No other symptoms or signs,It was a 8 cm tumor which was removed with my left liver love. I was fine for 6 months until the next scan that showed recurrence of 2 small tumors. Chemo treatment for the last 18 months, first Gemzar and Cistaplatin for 6 months and now just Gemzar and TACE which injects strong chemo directly into the tumor. Not a cure but a way to control CC.

Houston is the area most affected by flooding although other areas also have had lots of flooding too but have not been reported by the media.
It has been tragic both for humans and animals. I have a friend who is a nurse that spent last night in Huntsville, approximately 50 miles or so North of Houston and by this morning when she got home she was in tears. She said, it was such a disaster and so many people still needed to be rescued and there were loss of life.
In my area, we were blessed in that the roads were passable and my apartment complex didn’t get any flooding, mainly due to the excellent retention pond on the premises. I am very grateful for that.

    Julie,

Glad to see you are coming to MD Anderson. Who are you seeing? It is a good cancer hospital and the clinical staff is great. My oncologist is Dr. Kaseb. I hope they can help you. Have you gone on their website?

MD Anderson is closed until Tuesday as is the MD Anderson clinic (where you get chemo, lab work and radiation treatmen) here in the Woodlands. I guess they will make new appointments according to the gravity of the patients illness which in your case should be a priority 1. I did request an appointment here in the Woodlands on the MYMDANDERSON website for next week but not sure I will get it that soon. Need to sort out the chemo schedule.

Best of luck and hope you get an appointment real soon.

After driving down to MD Anderson and waiting over 2 hours I found out that they wanted to keep me in hospital overnight which would have been okay except for Hurricane Harvey which will drop in on Houston in the night. So, they gave me the option to reschedule as I was not sure my daughter could drive the 38 miles to pick me up in the morning because of Harvey. So, going in on 15 September and staying overnight.

Thank you ladies for your encouragement. Waiting to get the appointment for TACE and don’t have chemo until the 14th of August so getting a break.
Julie I hope your bone marrow results will be good. You are such a trooper! Thinking of you.
