Yes Julie it is incredable after just having 1 Y-90 treatment and then told that was it no treatment no nothing. Wham Bam. I was just sick to think that there was no hope…no treatment and we all know what that means. I thank God every day. We did get that second opinion and every one diagnosed should get one, two, don’t give up!!!!

Judy , I know how hard this is for you at this time. You did the right thing in contacting Cathy, she is wonderful and has been so good to our family, she helped us so much with alot of information and what our options could be. That second opinion that we had with Dr. Chapman saved my husbands life! Last May, after being listed for a liver transplant, he indeed got the new liver !!! I can’t tell you how grateful this family is. We take each day at a time… and it has been wonderful.

Cathy, Keep posting about Dr Chapman and his team so more cc patients can at least have more options.
We just had a follow up appt at Barnes yesterday, they keep a close watch on all of Kennys test and health and I’d say he is doing very good for 69 yr old, I mean ,young, ha ha, . Spring planting is coming right up and he is ready , Life is Good.

Dear Lainy, I was surprised how fast Kenny started to heal. The color in his face was of a healthy person within hours. I tell ya, it was a Blessing…. Even at 68 he is very active and other than the CC He is a very healthy person. Never had spent a day or night in the hospital EVER. I just want people to know that age should not be a reason Not to get a liver or any other treatment for cc. We fought this together and we feel better for it.
I have to tell you that your posts are like a breath of fresh air, you are thoughtful and upbeat when I needed to be, for that I thank you. I don’t post alot but I read all the posts I can. Lol you crack me up at times too.

Hello Sprinter, My husband is a recent transplant success story done at Barnes. The whole team is wonderful Dr Chapman is the nicest Dr We have ever met, whith out him and all the others, I am sure Kenny would not be here today, what a Blessing. We have alot of hope for the future that we did not have untill we got that second opinion. Everyone should get opinions not settle, this is your life.I wish you all the good luck at your appt. It is well worth it, you never know. Kenny was turned down for a transplant at Mayo, I think because of his age, he just turned 68 but he is very active not OLD.
He is doing what has not been possible for the last 3 years, He’s a farmer and he has recoverd and back to doing the farming and enjoying every minute of it too !
I know that not everyone is going to benifit from a transplant but Barnes will tell you weather you could or not. I will keep you in my prayers

Sis, I hope all goes well for Mark. If it is possible Dr Chapman will do all he can to help him. It does take time to make his case and review it before a board, I think. But once they decide they do all to make it happen. Was Mark needing a liver transplant? If so, there is a list also. But I can honestly say that it is worth all the waiting. Once Kenny was listed it was only 3 months, remember they have to have a match donor also. Good luck and lots of prayers.
Kenny and I was just there weds for a check up and he had Dr Doyle, she was very nice, They said that there was 2 surgeries going on while we were there. We have felt good about all the drs we have seen. We were in good hands for sure.

SEEK, I do think a person has to have alot of hope everyday. It was a long process but Oh so rewarding. The transplant changed our lives in so many ways. Kenny at least has a second chance at life. He is positive to the point I have to keep an eye on him so he won’t over do !He actually has the energy to do thigs that have been impossible for the last 3 yrs.
Here in the USA we are pretty lucky to have Insurance that allows all to have great medical care. That is why it is so important to get that 2nd and third or more opinions. If we would have stopped at the first diagnosis and plan that was nothing, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. God has a Plan for all of us BUT we have to promote ourselves for the care’
I have met several transplant people who had just medicaid and got wonderful care no matter their insurance. Can you tell how happy we are about this chance at life? lol But it really is somethin that we are so thankfull for.

    Lots of prayers

Yes Cathy it is crazy, I thought the day would not come for Kenny to get his transplant. It’s a new life now, you know really living ! He is doing great and we have so many to thank, you, Dr Chapman, all the Drs And cordinators and GOD for giving him this second chance. 2 young men in our area have lost their life just since we returned from the transplant, I so wish that we will see a better way to catch this disease so they can have earlier treatments.
Kenny is preparing for Fall harvest, feeling better every day. Who would have thought that?
As for Medicare , they paid their part, our insurance, BC BS paid theirs and we are just so glad.
By the way, even medicaid pays for transplants in Illinois for those that need it, it’s only right that everyone be able to get medical care. In my view that is.
So yes, Kenny is doing great.
    Hugs

in reply to: Kenny got a liver!! #82993

Thanks for posting that Cathy!! It has been a busy 1 week at home. We are so glad that we gave it another try and made this appt with Dr Chapman and the whole team, It trully is a group thing, so many involved and all so wonderful and caring about the patient ! We have so much to be thankful for today. Things are going right along for Kenny. His color was noticable right after the transplant and he looked so good ! This is one happy family here. Like I said it has been a busy time around here and I sure am showing my age plus! haha
Dr Chapmen said that he is doing good and that he will start to reduce the dose of some of his imune-suppressants, those can cause headaches.
Cathy came to visit us at our motel room and it was sure nice to meet her, just as I knew she would be. We have her to thank for her posting about transplants. I know that not all of could benifit from a new liver but you never know untill you inquire about it with a qualified Dr such as Dr Chapman.I will always be grateful.
    Tired but happy
    love to all, Brenda

Yeah !I have felt positive about Transplant for my husband every since we were told that was possibilty for his situation by Dr. Chapman. That was march 2014 and he was listed for the liver transplant. Hanging in there as these take time.
    Thank you Gavin!!!!

in reply to: How Were You Diagnosed? #82055

Cathy you are one tough cookie! You are also very Lucky that you got diagnosed so quickly. This is so rare that most people and even lots of Drs don’t know what cholangio is, Thank goodness we have this forum , I know that without stumbling on to this site My Husband would not be being treated by Dr. Chapman. We are so glad that we contacted Dr Chapman one yr ago. Long story short, my husband is on the list for a transplant liver at Barnes. I realize not every case qualifies for transplant but in our case, he is stable enough to benifit with a new liver. Thank God and Thank you Cathy Oh and Dr Chapman.

The question I have is…How would you get the albumin after the draining? If not in the hospital? That has been part of the draining of ascites for my husband. That was always done as a outpatient. Thankfully since June of 2013 he has only had one draining in Dec , so much better than every week or two in april thru June..The ascities sure made him sickly. I hope all gets better for you.
