I will ask the radiologist at work today. I know that if they are doing a chest CT and the patient can’t get the iodine they sometimes do a nuclear medicine test instead depending on what they are checking for . I would think that something could be done if it turns out that she is unable to get the iodine on Wendesday. Thanks cdr.
chrisSpectatorBarb,
I hope for you to make lovely memories with you and your son. Cancer always seems to bring forth difficult decisions. My mom has CC and I had cancer myself that was pretty bad so I know what it is like to make difficult decisions concerning treatment. I actually chose to discontinue treatment at one point.
Like I said, my mom has CC and has already had surgery, chemo, and radiation. Unfortunatley it came back a few months ago. With her CA 19-9 over 5,000. She is now taking Sorafrenib(Nexavar) it is a chemo pill. I believe it is used in advanced renal cancer as well as pancreatic cancer. The only side effects she gets from it are diarrhea once or twice a day. She says it is tolerable though. The doctor said that he does not expect it to prolong her life only to make her feel more comfortable. She has a CT next week and depending on the results she will continue taking it.Chris
chrisSpectatorCarol,
My mom had a klatskin tumor and had a resection. This was in Feb. 2007. She had negative margins and decided to undergo radiation and chemo afterwards. Unfortunately for her and us the cancer came back in November. She has a local recurrence as well as liver tumors. Just our experience. Best of wishes to you and your husband.
Chris
chrisSpectatorHi Michelle, welcome to the group. My mom also has ascites. She recently had 2 liters drained from it. I asked the doctor if it was because of her liver and he said yes. Another one said today that it is not going to go away but he seemed alittle suprised that it had not grown more over the past week or so.
