    Hi Katie,

I will join all the rest & welcome you with open arms. You are the youngest on the site, but also one of the bravest & with the best attitude, which is so important. Keep posting & updating us on how you are doing. I will be hoping for the best for you. You have so much in your favor. I also want to wish you a happy belated birthday.

    Thanks Violarob,

That describes almost word for word what I feel happened to my husband. By the time he had any symptoms at all his liver was probably 90% damaged. When the official diagnosis came in it was 95%. He was never sick until then & it went swiftly at that point. One of the doctors actually used the word “wasting” which made me very angry at the time, but apparently was accurate.

It is a hard topic to address, but I think it does help to better understand all the what’s & why’s. It has helped me & hopefully will help others too.

Thanks for posting this Tess. That is very interesting. Lainy I think you are right. The increase could definately be due to our vets. I think we are on tto something here! :)

Thanks for the input Sam and all your kind words. Good luck with your finals.

You are so right Sue, the first of everything seems to be so very hard.

I still haven’t gotten Jim’s truck going so haven’t been able to sell that either. I don’t really want to put any more money in to it as it is old and has a lot of miles on it. Come spring if nothing else works out I may just donate it to Rawhide. That is a ranch in northern Wisconsin for troubled boys where they fix up old vehicles & resell them to help keep the ranch operating.

I think you are right, anything that can go wrong sure does seem to go wrong when we are at our lowest.

Hang in there. I will be hoping for a good week for all of us.

    Love & Hugs,

    Robyn,
I agree, it is all very frustrating. I still can’t understand how Jim could be that ill & show no symptoms. I also wonder why it was so hard to detect & diagnois when it affected 95% of his liver. He wasn’t even jaundiced until the last week. Apparently that is why I have heard it called a silent killer. It appears that in many cases it grows slowly & silently and then hits with a vengence.

I don’t have any answers for you other than to say you need to go with what you feel is right for your Mom based on the information she is given. Hopefully your Mom can make those decisions with your help & support.

I will also repeat what many have said before. Getting as many opinions as you can is never a bad idea.

Stay in touch & let us know how your Mom is doing.

    Hi Tom

I agree with Lainy, your attitude is great & you seem to be handling things well under difficult circumstances. Having family & friends to support you is a big plus and your great attitude & your age are on your side. Just keep on living for today & keep experiencing everything that you can.

    Mary,

I too talk to a lot of people who do not want it. They feel the care would not be as good or as efficent. I feel as you do that the care is just as good for those who are getting government based care. The cost of insurance is so high as are the deductibles. Not to mention that so many legitimate claims are denied, even by the so called “good insurances”. It is an on going fight to get them to pay for a lot of treatments as many on this board well know. I too ignore a lot of the little things. Unfortunately, I have a few years to go yet before I would qualify for medicare. :)

    Janet,

I too am telling any one who will listen. Anything we can do to educate the public & get the word out about this horrible type of cancer can only help to promote more awarness & possible save some lives in the future.

I too have been told it is a very rare type of cancer but is very prevelent in the Asian countries. Almost everything I have learned about CC came from the wonderful people on this site. Here in our own little world it is not so rare, it is the common bond we have with each other.

    Hi Kris,

No need to blush, you deserve every word. I am hoping you will get all the support that you & Hans need to get you through this. I will be thinking of you & wishing you the best on “poison day”.

Here in the US, as you already know, most people are against socialized medicine. With the cost of health care and insurance so out of control, I for one think it is need and am all for it. I think there are a lot more positives than negatives to national health care. Not sure if it will every happen here. Too much money & politics involved I guess. Being sick in the US is almost “cost prohibitive” with or without insurance.

You are fortunate to be in a country that is handling health care in that way.
Again, I wish you the best & will keep you in my thoughts & prayers as your journey continues. Please keep us posted as to how you are doing.

    Love & Hugs,

    Janet,

    Thanks for sharing your story.

Jim’s situation was similar to Joel’s, except that even tho’ they did every test imaginable, they could not find a cause for his problems until they did a PET Scan and liver biopsy. The tumors did not show up on any of the other tests. We found out 1 week before he passed on that what was causing all his problems was CC.

Because of the rapid deterioration any treatments they thought to try were ultimately not an option because of how quickly things had progressed. I have often thought that if he’d had the chance to try some of the treatments, things would have been different, but it appears that even tho’ Joel was given that option, it still could not be controlled. This cancer seems to be an uncontrolable monster for which there are no answers.

Jim also was in Vietnam and did not have any of the other things that are said to contribute to the cause of CC, so I am thinking that in his case it was the liver fluke theory. I am told it is very prevelant in Asian countries. I’m not sure about India.

As you said, it is a horrible thing for everyone to have to go through, especially when it goes so quickly. I also have 2 sons & it has been very hard on all of us. Jim has been gone for 6 months & there are still times that I can hardly believe that this has happened to us.

Janet I know how hard this is on you as we are all going through the same thing, Atleast here, we can share our grief and sorrow with others that truely know & understand what we are going through and hopefully begin to heal.

    Hi Sam,
I also want to welcome you & repeat what the others have said, that you are a very supportive, caring daughter. We do all try our best to help & support each other, but I am sure that the support Sue gets from you is very important to her and greatly appreciated.

    Jeff,
It is good to see you are still posting. You have given so much help, support & strength to everyone here & we are all now here for you & Valerie. You and your family are in my thoughts & prayers.

    Pauline,
I am glad to hear you got back OK & that your arm is back to normal. The way I figure it, because February was a short month, my 6 months & your 7 are on the same day this month. It does seem like the time is slipping away from us, doesn’t it? As always, know that I am thinkng of you.

I also struggle with memory at times & hope that it is related to everything that we are going through & that it will improve again with time.

    Joyce,
I sure do hope you are right & spring is on the way. It is cold, icy & snowy here I am am really getting sick & tired of it all!

Well, everyone do your best to get through the rest of the weekend. Take care.

    Thanks Kris,

I agree with Joyce. It is exactly what I needed to hear & you are wonderful to have been able to sense that we all needed this boost of support. I think that you too are amazing. With what you are all going through you are still able to reach out & help others. I think you are doing a pretty good job of holding it all together too. Thanks so much. Take care Kris.

Lots of hugs & love coming your way from cold, snowy Wisconsin.

    Rose May,

I am in Plymouth which is about an hour north of Milwaukee. It is about half way between Sheboygan & Fond du Lac. I believe you are in good hands in Madison. I have heard a lot of good things about University Hospital.
