    I am completely speechless…I cannot believe it…

Kris was an amazing woman and she was such an inspiration to me. She was about my age and this news really hits home.

There are no words, and I know that nothing can make you feel better at this time but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, Hans and all of Kris’ family. The next few days will be difficult, to say the least but I am sure that you will pull through as Kris would have wanted you to…

Hope you find the strength and courage to go on and hope that each day that passes gets easier.

RIP devoncat, Kris. You are with the love of my life, my one and only, my mommy. Please take good care of each other, until we meet again.

    Emily xoxo

    HI everyone,

Yes I am pretty caught up with all the numbers. The reason is that my mom was initially diagnosed with unknown primary cancer and given Taxol/CArboplatin. She had an amazing response but her oncologist was a complete zero and said after 6 treatments we need a break and change cocktails.

4 months later he started her on Gemcitabine/Oxaliplatin. Since he thought it may be cholangiocarcinoma based on pathology presuming and the lesions in the liver from the scan. SHe did not respond well to this treatment and after only one cycle he said no more chemo and I’m sorry there’s nothing we can do. Basically go home and die.

So this was in September, we changed oncologist after that meeting (obviously). The new oncologist said that he does not understand why the old onc didn’t continue the taxol/carbo since she was responding well and her bloods and platelets and all were doing fine.

He scheduled for her chemo to start that week and the day before we had to go to the ER with pain and jaundice and that is when we found out she had a blockage and got the stent.

So yes, it’s been a pretty crazy ride this past month and so that is why I am so desperate to start chemo since her disease is spreading at a very quick rate and I know she had a good response in February so hopefully we can have the same. So at this point as my screen name says yes I am desperate to hear and feel that she will be okay and that we can spend christmas together :)

My mom means the world to me. My parents were divorced and it has always been just my brother, my mom and myself. We are tight. Very tight. SHe is my mom, friend, sister, soulmate, basically she is everything to me and I just cannot imagine my life without her. I don’t even wanna think about that. I have taken time off work now because I just am not functional these days.

I hope things get better….soon….I really hope!

Marion- My mom’s infection is better so now we wait for the bilirubin and swelling.

Gavin- They are giving her diuretics but it is not helping really. They did an ultrasound and there is a bit of liquid but not enough to justify draining yet..

Lesley- I do have alot of people around me who would like to help but I have kind of closed the door to them. I just can’t talk with anyone, other than this forum, it’s too difficult for me right now, am too emotional.

Thank you for taking the time,
    Emily

in reply to: Mom’s thighs are swollen now? Is this normal? #41987

My mom’s bilirubin was 142 today am really really happy that it is going down…

BUT am sad cause she has e-coli bacteria infection in the blood and is on antibiotics…how serious is this infection? anyone know? is it treatable? how long does it take to go away?

Oh and she is really swollen today, they gave her diuretics cause from the ultrasound they saw a bit of fluid but not enough to drain…do the diuretics work? i hope so :)

Why do I feel that we fix one thing and ruin another…these are all things that are not allowing her to get chemo and she needs it ASAP!!

in reply to: Mom’s thighs are swollen now? Is this normal? #41985

Thank you everyone, yes, my mom is in the hospital as we speak. She went through ER and is now an in-patient since last friday:

-She had a blockage, had a stent successfully done, bilirubin went from 270 to 171…so happy about this :)
-Has swelling in abdomen and thighs and now knees. They did an ultrasound and saw liquid in abdomen but not enough to drain therefore just waiting, although not sure what we’re waiting for on this one. Oh and they did not mention anything about diuretics so not sure what to think…
-AND now she has had fever since yesterday and is taking antibiotics through IV. They say she has a bacterial infection in the blood??? what is this? how is this caused? is it dangerous? should i worry? any info on this would be appreciated…

Her doctor says she absolutely needs chemo but we cannot start unless all of the above co-operate!!!! Please God help us!!! Please!! Thank you for listening :)

in reply to: Mom’s thighs are swollen now? Is this normal? #41982

Yes she is in hospital because she had a blockage and has a lot of pain and now the swelling. She has swelling in her stomach also, her stomach is quite swollen too. Her feet or her ankles are not swollen yet….

    Thanks again everyone!

PS: i did try the search but nothing came up that is why I was wondering if anyone heard of this and what it means or what to do?

in reply to: Chemo and high billirubin #41903

You are all soo nice thank you for the responses. My mom’s bilirubin was 150 today I am hoping and praying for the downward trend to continue. We really need to start chemo ASAP therefore, I am PRAYING that the bilirubin co-operates.

I think that everyone on this site is probably the nicest people I have met…Thank you and God bless everyone!!

in reply to: Chemo and high billirubin #41899

All the best to you too!!!

in reply to: My mom has cancer and I would like to introduce myself, #39902

Hey everyone- just wanted to say HUGE thank you for all your nice welcomes and words of wisdom. You all seem like some of the nicest people I have ever met…I must say that I am soo happy to have found you all…as I must admit, I needed this.

Lainy- You are so nice and you have the perfect things to say…thank you!

JenniferS-WOW!! How similar our stories… I feel you… Congratulations on your daughter and wishing you all the best for your dad. PS: I was born in Calgary, another similarity!!

Linda Z- You make an interesting point about the fact that she’s reacted well to the chemo so why change…we asked the same question and her oncologist said they never repeat the same chem after the 6 cycles?? Is that true? I’m guessing no from the sounds of your question? I will have to ask again I guess (this site has taught me a thing or 2 the past few days). Maybe her oncologist wants to change the chemo cause first it was unknown primary and now they think it’s CC?? (not sure, just guessing, but i shall ask) Linda I wish you all the best with your new chemo and hope it works wonders for you!! Best of luck and let me know how it goes please.

Mark S- So happy to hear you were on the same chemo my mom will be starting and that it worked for you…hope it does for my mom too. I wish you continued success with your new chemo and thank you for your kind words.

Katieloumatt- Thank you so much for your sweet wishes and so sorry to hear about your father…

Kimmie- I hear you on that lurking this website, I’ve been doing just that the past few days, there is so much information, I’m addicted to this site. Hope all turns out well for your mom. And yes, I have a brother younger than me but it’s hard for us to talk about stuff, he’s ultra positive and I am positive but trying to be “realistically optimistic” and I don’t want to worry him unnecessarily with my 10000 questions running through my mind daily.

Lalupes- THank you for your hug!! I gave it to my mom and told her about everyone on this site and how nice you all are and she gives everyone on here a big hug and lots of kisses.

Gavin/Marions- Thank you for your nice welcome!

LAnce21- Hope your mom’s white blood cells go back up so she can continue that chemo that’s making her ca199 go down.

Thank you all, sorry about the long post but wanted to personally thank each and everyone of you!!

Thank you and best wishes to all, Emily xxx
