    Betty,

My Mom and I have the same feelings about God’s plan. Miracles are happening everyday.

I will pray for you and Sam. I will pray for comfort, guidance and that he show himself to you and let you know he is there and understands.

My mom was able to be home for their anniversary. She is doing much better. We went to CTCA on 2/20 and her liver numbers are improving. Her bad mouth sores were due to the nurse not giving her Allopurinol before giving her the FUDR. That will not happen again. She is now on a clinical trial RealBuild for her low cell and platelet counts. She has lost her hair but generally feels really good.

    Betty,

By any chance is Dr. Bignen (I think thats how you spell his name) overseeing your case? My mom was being treated at UAB by him and his panel. He wanted to take the “Let’s see what happens” approach to my mother in regards to the Xeloda. He performed her surgery in May of 05. Her margins were good after the surgery. She was on Xeloda and radiation for preventative measures. While on this treatment through Dec. 05 she developed three new spots on her liver. They just wanted to keep her on the Xeloda.

Since then, we had gone for a second opinion at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. All they could say about her treatment from UAB was “Oh My!” She is now on a different treatment at CTCA and her liver numbers are improving.

Have you gone for a 2nd opinion?

My prayers and thoughts are with you.

My mom went into the hospital on Monday. Her blood cell counts were next to nothing. She is in isolation. She hopes to get out of the hospital on Saturday. It is their 45th wedding anniversary. I’ll keep all posted.

My prayers are with you all.

    Evan,

I understand how you feel. After talking to them however, I felt that they have dealt with alot of people with this type of cancer including Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears after he was mistreated and misdiagnosed at Mayo Clinic. Time is extremely important when dealing with cancer. They told us things that her former Dr. failed to mention.

In a matter of 2 months my mom’s tumors doubled in size.

I can not say enough good things about them thus far. They are attentive and understanding. They handle all travel arrangements and getting the medical records from the Dr.’s. They know you have alot on you plate already and don’t want you to have additional stress.

I pray for you and your family!!

My mom started her treatment 1/24/06 and finished 1/28/06. She feels pretty good except she has developed some mouth sores and her lips are very swollen.

They said there is an 80% chance of remission and 30% that it will not come back.

My mother is 62. She was diagnosed in May 05. Had 1/3 of her liver removed. The cancer was removed or so they thought. Went through a round of Radiation. Had been on Xeloda until Dec 21 05. Had scans done in Nov 05 now has three spots in liver. She is suppose to be starting Xeloda again on Jan 23 06. 1 week on 1 week off.

I am having Cancer Treatment Centers of America see her this Wednesday. All they could say about her taking just the Xeolda is “OH MY”. They have also said that “Mayo Clinic” had misdiagnosed and mistreated Walter Payton who had Cholangio Carcinoma. They received him as a patient late in his treatment. They also stated that have put people in remission with this type of cancer.

I will let you know what they say about my mom.
