Thank you, Marions, for your supportive words. I know that I just need to be there for whatever and whenever he decides – and glad to hear from someone who’s been there.

I loved the Homer Simpson story – we all need a good laugh, don’t we?

My dad also has the shakes, but I really never gave it much thought until I read your post. I just assumed it was the pneumonia he was fighting. His right hand tremor is especially bad and it is very difficult to watch him try to eat. The aides are good about helping, but we try to plan our visits around meal times so we can all help.

    RANK,

As I read the progression of your dad’s illness, it makes me sad, as I feel my dad is headed down the same road. He will leave the hospital within the next couple of days and will go to a nursing facility. We still hope he can gain enough strength to go home, but it is unlikely.

I will pray for both our dads.

Thanks for all the incredible words of kindness. If it weren’t for this horrible disease, Dad would be a very young 85-year-old. He has always been so active and to see him like this is painful. He has pretty much reached the end of any treatment which could be of any benefit. The good news is that the pneumonia is cleared up, and he’ll be discharged to a nursing home in a couple days if all goes well. I spent the day shopping for a facility that will take good care of him and give him the comfort and support he needs.
