    Hi Ron,
Following my husband’s resection, he was scanned every 3 months until a recurrance and now he is being scanned every 6-8 weeks. Best of luck.

    Happy New Year Melissa,
My husband’s cancer was located in the left lobe of his liver. (4cm) and in 3 lymph nodes. He had the tumer removed before he started any chemo or radiation. Best of luck to your brother. It seems that almost everyone is able to tolerate the gemzar. It’s the oxaliplatin that is so rough. I agree that it takes a tremendous amount of couage to face this daily battle. I am in awe of my husband’s determination. What a great example he is to our children.

    Mels,
My husband was on the same regimen with the exception of Avastin. He was able to complete a 6 month cycle without interruption. At the end of the 6 months, there was no evidence of the cancer. He did have neuropathy that increased slightly over time. He was able to handle it, although it was annoying. It seemed to come and go at the beginning and then remained more constant once treatment was completed. 5 months since this treatment completed, the neuropathy has just about disappeared although the cancer has reappeared. He has just started Erbitux and Irrinotecan. Best of luck to your brother.

    Hi Mary,
My husband had two separate biopsies. 7 core samples were removed. All samples came back benign. Thankfully, we took his slides to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital where the liver specialist took them in front of a tumor board. The doctors felt the tumor was suspicious and we agreed to have it removed. My husband’s tumor turned out to be cholangiocarcinoma. I would move forward and take the slides to another hospital. Better safe than sorry. I still to this day do not know how core samples can be benign and it miss the cancer. Best of luck.

Your mom does appear to be one of the record-setters! How lucky for both of you. Your mom’s story is encouraging. I wish her continued good health as you work through this next scare. In regards to the back pain, that was my husband’s only symptom that something was amiss before his diagnosis. His pain centered in his back and nothing seemed to alleviate his extreme discomfort. After months of doctor’s treatment he finally had a CT and MRI. That is when they discovered the tumor. His eating was not affected, though. I hope your mom’s pain can be controlled. She will be in our prayers. Good luck.

    Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your two brothers. To have gone through this ordeal with two family members must have been so hard. Take care of yourself.

My husband, age 50, was on a similar combination of drugs although he had oxiyplatin (sp?) not cisplatin. He did not experience intense pain but he definitely described abdominal discomfort. I know the platin drugs have severe side effects. Maybe someone else on the site will be able to help you. I know that many others have been on these same drugs. What does your mom’s oncologist say? Keep us posted.
    Best of luck!

    Hi Kate,
After my husband’s resection, the No. 1 complaint was abdominal discomfort. Not abdominal pain. His resection was 11 months ago. I’m not sure if it is scar tissue building up around the site or a combination of the fact that they moved so many organs around during the resection. There was some hair thinning but I am not sure that had anything to do with the resection. I am pretty sure that came from the chemo afterwards. Fatique is another big complaint to this day. He lost a lot of weight but his appetite came back and his weight is consistent with what it was before suregery. Wish you and your mom the best!

    Hi Marion,
My husband had a liver resection October 2005. The Dr. felt he got clear margins but there was some lymph node involvement. All Drs. involved thought that chemo after surgery was a must. I agree with Stacie. The Dr. wanted to make sure that they got anything microscopic before it turned into a problem. Post-op was difficult but manageable. Even though my husband healed well from surgery there is still some minor abdominal discomfort 10 months later. The Drs. believe this might just be scar tissue. Our best to your husband.

My husband had 5 1/2 weeks of daily radiation and a continuous infusion drip of 5-FU. He tolerated radiation well. It wasn’t until radiation was completed that the fatigue set in. It took him a few weeks to rebound and at times he is still fatigued. Radiation was this past January and February. Best of luck to Phil!

    Lainy,
Your news is wonderful. We too have been blessed with clean scans. My husband’s surgery was in October of 2005. He had clear margins following the surgery but had some lymph node involvement. It has been a long, hard detour in life but so far so good. I know that we are not out of the woods but we try to build on each positive bit of news we get. Mike is still not feeling up to par. Fatigue, tightness around the area of his incision and getting going in the morning is the hardest. We are hoping that each day will be a little better. His oncoligist and radiologist has said he has gone through very agressive surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy and this will take its toll on the body. I continue to pray for everyone on this site and hope that we will begin to see more and more good news and success stories.

    Hi Jules,
My husband was told that could quite likely get a hernia because of his surgery. So far so good but he also hasn’t really done much exercising yet. Sorry I can’t help.
