Gavin-thank you for finding this article. I am going to share this with my NP. She had never heard of CC. Take care, Johanna
jladamsMemberHi Katielinn,
I hope your mom is doing better. Lourdes gave you a lot of good info.
I drank many shakes my husband made me. The PA at Johns Hopkins told me it does take some people 6 to 8 weeks to feel better. I hope that your mom feels better soon-the procedure is definitely worth the aggravation of not feeling like yourself. JohannaAugust 16, 2011 at 11:21 am in reply to: Overall survival peri-hilar cholangiocarcinoma: R1 resection with cura #51851jladamsMemberHello Just_Jill and Lainy,
I agree that a much bigger sample size is needed. I also believe that qualitative research needs to be completed on CC.
I hope I am way above average for survival with this cancer.

August 15, 2011 at 10:00 pm in reply to: If you have Blue Cross and Blue Shield Please read this. #37179jladamsMemberHi Everyone,
I have BC/BS of DE traditional insurance. They are denying the need for a PET scan. Has BC/BS paid for PET scans? Please let me know those of you who have BC/BS. Thanks, JohannajladamsMemberHello Katielinn,
I have had only one chemo-embolization-it took me one month to feel good. I lost 15 pounds.
As far as your mother’s exhaustion-I had that also. I did develop cholangitis. I had chills and icterus (yellowing of the eyes).
What do the whites of your mom’s eyes look like?
Just a suggestion, I would not wait to call the doctor your mom may need some stat bloodwork today.
Where was the chemo-embolization done?
Johanna (retired RN)PS The good news is that more than 50% of my tumor is dead. I hope your mom feels better soon! Tell her to hang in there – she will feel better. My treatment was in March and it is still working on killing cells.
jladamsMemberThank you Heather for posting that wonderful news about your dad. It helps me when I am feeling down. Wishing your father continued good health news! Sincerely, Johanna

Thanks for the idea. I need to do something about my cholesterol. Regards, JohannaJuly 22, 2011 at 11:00 pm in reply to: Metabolic syndrome increases risk of both major types of primary liver #51778jladamsMemberI also have type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed 5 years ago. My brother died at 58-he was totally blind and on dialysis. He did not take care of himself at all!
I have high cholesterol-it was controlled with Lipitor. The oncologist told me to stop taking the Lipitor. I just started on BP meds after I was diagnosed with CC.
My triglecerides are OK. My highest A1C has been 6.9 (before I was diagnosed).
Good article Gavin-thank you. Regards, JohannajladamsMemberHi Maria,
I have had 1 chemoembolization. The doc at Mayo said I have one lesion, the doc at Hopkins said I have 2 lesions that were treated with the chemoembolization. I found out by accident after reading the report. I have a diffusion MRI again in Sept. at Hopkins.
Medicine is not an exact science (as we all know with CC). It does drive me crazy. I am glad you are doing well! Sincerely, JohannajladamsMemberHi CG,
I go to Hopkins for follow up on the chemoembolization treatment I had in March. I am very happy with Hopkins. I cannot have surgery. As PCL informed you-that is the first choice.
I did see a surgeon at Hopkins named Dr. Pawlik, he does many liver resections.
The doctor who did my chemoembolization was Dr. Geschwind-he has written many articles on the subject. JH has a diffusion MRI machine that can tell if your tumor is dying. I have some tumor death.
Wishing you all the best. Sincerely, JohannajladamsMemberThank you Nancy and Rodsdaughter for your kind remarks. Johanna
jladamsMemberHello Katielinn,
Thanks for you support!
I did see Dr. Pawlik in March and he told me he could not operate on me-he suggested the chemoembolization.
Dr. Pawlik is very nice-he introduced himself by his first name.
I like Hopkins-Christiana Hospital in DE told my oncologist chemoembolization would not help me. I am so glad I went to Hopkins.
Please let us know how the visit goes. Sincerely, JohannaJuly 8, 2011 at 12:35 am in reply to: General Information about CC- a reprint from previous message #51481jladamsMemberHello Percy,
You trully are a wealth of information! I thank you for your research. Sincerely, JohannajladamsMemberThank you Kathy for all your support! Johanna
