    Sammi,

My wife was diagnosed in March with metastatic, inoperable, and non-curable cholangiocarcinoma. However, none of her doctors ever attached a time frame. She is undergoing a palliative chemo combo of gem and 5fu. She also has the complications of short bowel syndrome after most of her small bowel was resected (in March when the cholangiocarcinoma was detected). I appreciate each day, although I evaluate her condition each day (energy level, skin tone, etc.) for any changes.

One day at a time. I’ll pray for your dad’s health and strength for you.

This is a good reference. My wife begins palliative chemotherapy this month. When I use the term “palliative chemo” I usually get blank looks, followed by the question so she will be cured, right?

I’m a member here and at FB. From time to time, there are posts that just irritate me at both places. I’m more focused on actual scientific data rather than emotional or one off anecdotes. I see that more on FB than here.

A few people want to believe that the cause is based on where they live, or their diet, or the stress in their life. I don’t find any of that constructive. There is also some criticism of doctors – we know more than most oncologists. That’s not helpful. I’m all for seeking multiple opinions. But, just because you don’t hear the answers you want doesn’t mean the doctor is incompetent.

And what works for you may not work for anyone else. We all got here in different ways, and the progression and treatment is different. I have a concern that some people get diverted on the wrong path or worse are given false hope.

David, I read your message and my thought was you can be a great resource but how can we connect you to teens and pre-teens. Then, I read Willow’s message which affirmed what the problem is.

Have you considered writing a blog about your experiences and the path you took from age 10 to where you are today? You could post links here when you create a new entry and it likely would occur in search results.

We met with Dr. Mulcahy on Wednesday for a second opinion. I was impressed with how much time she spent with us, and how we’ll she had prepared to meet with us. You’re in good hands.
