Lainy, you need to stop this!! You aren’t supposed to be in the running for most problems (I know, bad attempt at humor!)
Of COURSE we all want to know how you are doing… After all, you are one of our mothers with your help and concern.
Get yourself all better soon. And PLEASE, PLEASE keep us posted on how you are. I’m sending prayers for a quick, flawless successful outcome.
    Love you!

Judy, you can stay in Rons hospital room with him. It’s not too comfortable, but it saw it done. Check to make sure, but that saves lots of $$$
Congratulations! Let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to answer whatever I can. 267-625-9873.
And, yes, great news that Dr. K will relinquish control! What a relief to you! I’m sure she will make Dr. Choi check in with her?

Sorry to have to welcome you to this site. The genetic mutation is very important in determining how any treatment will work. There are many mutations of this monster.
For my own experience, I never had cisplatin. My previous onc had me treated with gem/oxaliplatin. It was tolerable for a while, but I had neuropathy occur, and eventually they had to discontinue treating me with oxaliplatin. The other side effects were tiredness, nausea, and lower blood counts. Never too low for treatment.
I was also on Gemzar/Xeloda. The Xeloda did not affect the lymph nodes at all, although it held the main tumor at stable.
As far as clinical trials: there are a few out there. I am on an inhibitor, which is doing a great job of keeping the tumor and nodes stable. It is offered at Fox Chase, U of Penn, and another .. maybe Bethesda? It has progressed to phase 2, and has certain limitations. It is also being administered with cisplatin.
As Percy mentioned, there is another trial that is showing promise.
You need to see what your mother wants to do, and help her make that decision. It’s a tough decision to make, and one that is very personal.

I’m staying in the phase 1 section of the trial. We are continuing 28 day cycles.

As if dealing with one patient isn’t enough! You wanted to join him? :(
I hope Ron is a candidate for the pump, and that the FUDR doesn’t prove to be too hard on him. The treatments are easy, as long as the liver can handle the chemo. But you will gave lots of trips back and forth! Dr. K wouldn’t relinquish the chemo admin to anyone else. Maybe for you she will.
And I’m happy your health scare went well.

I agree that there’s no known reason for getting cc. BUT I agree that sugar is bad! I believe cancer cells feed on sugar and some other processed foods. So, while I don’t believe sugar CAUSES cancer, I believe my sweet tooth helped it grow.

Mary, hopefully he will handle chemo well. I’m jealous that you are going for Mardi Gras!! The main thing to worry about there are all of the crowds. Most chemo patients have lower tolerance for illness. I’m sure the crowds haven’t gotten any smaller since I lived there in early 90’s!
I hope his docs will work with him so you can all go! It’s lots of fun!! (I rode with the Krewe of Ullysses)

Thanks Gavin. I’ve noticed my fingers turn whitish quite easily nowadays. And COLD!!
