You are all awesome. I am living with this anxiety alone as I don’t want to upset my children who live in NJ or siblings who live in FL until I get the scan results.
I have been going to UVA every 3 mo. for scans since surgery. The next one will be my 9 mo. scans.
I live 2 hrs. from UVA but chose this hospital because they have a very good liver transplant and resection team. I was told being all margins were clear chemo/radiation was not recommended after surgery. There is no doubt the surgeon saved my life. I did get a second opinion at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
The oncologist is a liver specialist and has a lot of experience with CC. All my other blood work came back good every time except for the 19-9 recently.
Thanks for all your encouragement and support. Believe me if the scans show anything I will certainly be drilling the oncologist. Let’s just hope it does not come to that.
It’s weird my stomach feels good in the morning but as soon as I eat it feels hard and bloated.
Sending love and good wishes to all.
KathykzieglarSpectatorThanks , Matt.
I will be going for my scans the 23rd and 24th (Feb).
I can only hope for the best and stay positive. I will post my results.
KathykzieglarSpectatorHi Serena:
I received your question via e-mail. Sorry but I am still not familiar with using this site. I am on vacation but when I go home will take the time to figure it out.
I am sorry to hear your Mom is having a difficult time. It truly is scary. To answer your question about my experience, I was told when I was first diagnosed April 7, 2014 that if I had not gone to ER that nite I would have been dead in 3 mo. so I think you could say advanced stage of CC.
Also said advanced stage of gallbladder cancer. As I said in my post after surgery the surgeon said margins were clear and lymph nodes as well. The oncologist said that due to these two factors, chemo and radiation was not needed. It has been 8.5 mo since surgery and thankfully I have not had any problems. Other than the CC I am however very healthy. The surgeon said he believed he could save me due to the fact I had no other health issues and was in good physical shape. I hope this helps. I send positive thoughts to you and your Mom.
KathyZJanuary 8, 2015 at 12:59 am in reply to: abdominal discomfort “tightness” months after liver resection #63045kzieglarSpectatorI had a resection April 30. They removed 80% of my liver and my gallbladder. All margins were clean so fortunately I did not need chemo or radiation. I also feel uncomfortable sensations at the incision site. It seems to happen more in the evening. I feel better in the morning. All my scans so far came back clean and blood work is good except for CA 19-9. After surgery it was 10. At 3 mo check-up
it was 136. My oncologist said he was concerned and wanted me to follow up with another blood test 30 days. I went last month Dec. 15 and it was 126. The oncologist said being it did not double or triple I should just have another blood test end of Jan. My GP said that this blood test alone is not a true marker for cancer and that this number might be my norm after my body adjusted to all the invasive surgery. I hope so. I was wondering if anyone who had similar surgery was having any problem with gas and bloating. It seems to be getting worse as time goes on. In the beginning i could eat anything without any problem which was surprising since I had gallbladder removed also. But now every time I eat I am very uncomfortable especially carbs, sugar etc. I am now really watching my diet. I would appreciate any advice. I am new to this site.
