Dear Marion, Lainy and Gavin,
Thanks so much for sharing the information. They are very helpful!! My husband had a plastic stent put in yesterday. He felt better today. We are now trying to find the cause for the stricture in the distant bile duct near pancreas head. He will have a CT done and see his oncologist tomorrow. I pray for good results.

lihuixuSpectatorThanks, Marion!
It has been a hectic couple of days. My husband has not been feeling well for the past several days and developed Jaundice (his total bilirubin was 8.4 this morning) over the weekend. He was admitted to the hospital last night and had ERCP done this morning. They found a stricture in the distal bile duct and the common bile duct is dilated from 4cm to 13cm. They put in a stent to drain. I am wondering if anyone would share your experience with stent, jaundice, etc. Thanks!

lihuixuSpectatorHi Karen,
My husband was diagnosed with ICC in November 2010. In his case, CA19-9 has been very predictive in terms of his response to treatment or disease status. Our oncologist told us the ‘trend” of CA19-9 (either down or up) is more important than just a number from any particular test. Also CA19-9 can increase under other circumstances (e.g. infection).
Hang in there!
LeelihuixuSpectatorDear Karen,
I am so sorry to learn about your disease and can only imagine what you are going through now. For my husband who also was diagnosed with intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinom, cytotoxic agents, such as Gem/Cis or others have not worked so well. However, he responded to targeted agents such as Avastin and Tarceva very well. I suggest you seek second opinion and ask if genetic testing can be performed. If genetic mutations are found, you may have more options using targeted agents.
Hang in there!

lihuixuSpectatorDear Catherine,
Thanks so much for sharing the information. I hope the CT scan for your mother next week continues to be good news.
In terms of seeking second opinion, we had consultation with Dr. Gores at Mayo Clinic a couple of years ago and his second surgery was done at the Memorial Sloan Kettering in October 2013. We are currently considering going to MD Anderson for consultation on radiation therapy.
Historically, my husband did not respond to cytotoxic agents as well compared to the targeted therapy. He is now on Avastin, Tarceva and PD-1 inhibitor (Merck’s drug). His last check of CA19-9 three weeks ago was slightly decreased, and he is scheduled to have CA19-9 checked next week. We are hopeful that the combination works.

lihuixuSpectatorHi Sherri,
I am glad to hear that you have started the treatment. I pray this regimen will work for you!

lihuixuSpectatorHi Sherri,
So sorry to learn about your disease, but it sounds like you have a good plan moving forward. My husband was on oxaliplatin and capecitabine after his disease came back. This regimen kept his disease stable for about 6 months. The side effects he had experienced were cold sensation, eventually neuropathy and hand/foot syndrome, but generally it was tolerated. Good luck with the treatment!!

lihuixuSpectatorThanks very much, Lainy! I am so glad that I found this wonderful family and now a part of it.
