I visited with my oncologist yesterday and he was kind of preparing me for the possiblity that the tumor was not resectable. However, he says that I’m responding very well to the chemo so there is reason to suppose that I can stay healthy and learn to live with cancer as a chronic disease.
lisaSpectatorMy doctors want to have me another month on chemo, then reevaluate with a CT scan in January. We are all hopeful for a positive result. I feel better now than I have in months, thanks be to God, and just in time for Christmas. I can even eat salsa! Ole!
If the tumor can’t be removed, I guess that I will get to know my oncologist and gastroenterologist very well
lisaSpectatorJadine, I’m on Gemzar and Xeloda. Every one is different, but I’m not experiencing any side effects aside from fatigue and low appetite. I hope that the chemo regimen treats you as well. Radiation was for me the worst part – the fatigue was almost overwhelming.
My tumor has shrunk after three months – hopefully yours will as well.
lisaSpectatorI’m not taking any supplements. I suppose I should – but I’m eating my normal diet and it’s working for me. The only supplement that I’m considering is an iron supplement.
I’m taking so many pills that the thought of taking anymore vitamins in pill form just makes me shudder!
lisaSpectatorI pray for myself and others that I know that have cancer.
I also like the St. Francis Prayer.
Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make us instruments
of your peace.
Where there is hatred
let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, union;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.Grant that we may not
so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood
as to understand;
To be loved as to love.For it is in giving
that we receive;
It is in pardoning
that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.Amen

Is it worth it for me to apply and “get in line” so to speak in case the disease progresses to the point where I can’t work anymore?

lisaSpectatorYuck, I have to get my stents replaced every three months, too.
Will I have to get that done for the rest of my life?

Right now I am going through the same treatment as he did – Xeloda & radiation. I pray that my results will be as good as yours!
You give me hope!
lisaSpectatorThank you for your kind words and encouragement!
My boss is great – he will let me telecommute as long as I can. Today I meet with him and the Human Resources boss to see how working part-time would affect my disability.
The choice of words that you use to describe cancer is important… I choose to fight this cancer. My kids need me to do that.
One blessing of the cancer is the outpouring of love and affection from my friends and church.
I do miss doing my normal activities – I used to bike a lot. I want to ski this winter. Just walking a little ways makes me out of breath.
