hi Patti. I am also from Chicago and my mom was diagnosed in Oct 07. If you have any good experiences with doctors in this area please let me know. My mom is seeing an Oncologist from Lutheran General in Park Ridge. She’s been treated with 2 types of chemo, neither which have worked. I took her to Mayo Clinic as well and they were not able to do anything further. I’m sort of just watching her get worse. I feel like I should be doing something but I don’t know what. Anyways just wanted to say hi since we are from the same area!

    Tanoland,

I’ve read a lot of your posts and feel your pain. So glad your sister received some positive news though. That’s great, Hang in there ! My mom has never been offered 2 chemo treatments at once so that is my next question when we talk to her doctor on Monday. I’m finding more and more information as I research CC. I should have started my research back when she was diagnosed in October 07 but I think we were all scarred to find out the truth. Last week when we were at Mayo they gave her 6-12 months to live. Her Oncologist here in Chicago has never given her an “expire” date like that so it was really hard to take. I try to give her encouragement by the positive stories I read about on this site. So far they say the CC has matastisized to her liver. As mayo they saw spots on her abdomen but didn’t feel they needed to biopsy since the main concern is the bile ducts.

Next week I’m making an appointment at Cancer Centers of America. I don’t want to give up and none of should.

Thanks for your thoughts and stay tuned.

My mom just turned 73. Neither her oncologist or Mayo suggested radiation because it can do more harm to her liver than good. We even looked into a transplant but the cancer has matastisized and it is not an option. The cat scan last week showed some spots on her abdomen but they didn’t worry about doing anything there because the bileduct/liver is their main concern. My mom has had acid reflex for a few years but other than that she has been very healthy. Mayo suggested looking into a research study so I’m trying to find something that may benefit her but we don’t want to put her through more pain if it won’t be effective. She has a lot of what she calls “gas” pain in her abdomen and the biliary bag causes a lot of issues. Now she has pain in her legs as well due to the blood clots.

Right now she prays she is able to walk my sister down the aisle at her wedding Aug. 30th. She has this to live for which I think is keeping her going.

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas! Very glad there is a site like this to share information. Take care.
