    Shira,
When the stent was changed, did the doctor tell you if he noted any sludge around the plastic one—if there is lots of stuff in there, this will cause an infection. It’s possible the infection was brewing and just happened to show symptoms the next day.

The antibiotics probably need more time to work…I don’t know about the gall bladder unless it is also a symptom of the infection.

I know eating is difficult for many, but may I suggest a couple of things—-Radishes and its leaves are an excellent natural antibiotic, also garlic has a proven history in treating infections..the compound allicin is similar to penicillin.
Just adding these foods daily can aid in fighting the infection.
One more thing….eat lots of foods that clean the bile such as tomatoes, watercress, turnips and the leaves, parsley…oh, and horseradish is a natural antibiotic and stimulated the flow of bile.

I hope something here helps…I totally believe in adding natural stuff to help.

Beth, I so happy you appreciated the info…some may think it’s too radical.

That’s amazing that your Step Dad at 85 had the foresight years ago to take vitamins and fish oil. See, we can learn from people like him.

The book I recommended, in the back, you’ll see a chart— follow that faithfully–actually your entire family will benefit from that kind of eating.
It lists food in catagories Best to Worst…and of course stay away from the bad stuff.
You can order that book on Amazon .com, it’s always available there.

Until you get the book and read through it, get him started on the fish oil and at least 1000 iu’s of Vitamin d until his level is checked.

Please feel free to ask me anything if i can help at all. I love talking about this, I truly believe it will help.

    Good luck with everything….

Jamie, Way to raise it naturally!

“Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables ( if your white blood cell counts are lower than 1 k/ul , check with your doctor who may recommend avoiding raw foods). Get plenty of rest. Some extra vitamin C, zinc, and beta-carotene may be helpful, but don’t overdo it with the supplements, as this may be dangerous”

If you have a low red blood count eat beets…it really works to raise they level.

I hate the idea of my husband getting shots to correct the blood counts so I would use these methods and they always worked.

Hi Beth, I am so very happy for you, thank god. It is what everyone prays for–a clear scan.

You asked if anyone would not do chemo, and I wanted to respond to tell you that if it had been my husband, I would not do it.

What I will say some may not agree with but everyone should research it. I have found that everything I’ve read makes so much sense.

If he has no cancer in him, then he doesn’t need chemo. Chemo will damage healthy cells and weaken the immune system. What you guys need to work on is changing his body. The first thing I would suggest is buying the book ” beating cancer with nutrition” you’ve probably seen it mentioned here before. Follow it like law.

Many times you hear that people who are clear of cancer have reoccurance….it is stated that it is because people don’t look for the unlaying reason which caused the cancer to begin with. Everyone who is blessed to have beaten cancer must think about changing something in them to prevent a reoccurance.

Let me give you this analogy….our bodies are 75 % fluid, including blood. Like a swimming pool our fluid must be PH balanced like the water in the pool. If it’s not balanced, too much acid, the water gets dirty, green and bacteria. Well the same goes for the body…if your body is correctly balanced you should be able to prevent disease. Everything I read regarding this makes sense. They sell PH test paper for humans to check their PH, I would suggest just give it a try.

A side sorry……I have a friend who has been on medicine for years for GERD (acid reflux) and a diet according to his doctor. I told him about the PH balance theory that I learned and he has been following it for a year now and eating oranges again, tomatoes, all the things the doctor told him he could not have, and he is now off his medication and his acid reflux disease is gone. The point is that we have to find out what our bodies are like inside…and you can make changes to your diet to correct problems.

The next time you have a doctor’s appointment, I would suggest to have Dave’s vitamin D level checked. It has been proven that most people are deficient in this vitamin. Look at this link regarding the benefits of vitamin d and fighting cancer.
    http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/dailydose/12/02/vitamin.d.cancer/index.html
This is why studies show that people fight cancer better in the summer because of the vitamin d from the sun.

I truly believe people can prevent any reoccurance or anymore damage to cells which become cancer by changing their bodies.

If your husband eats lot of processed foods, red meat, sugar, cookies cakes all that stuff that has preservatives in it…diet products with artificial sugar then he should stop. Get that book..there are a few other great books too…by Richard B

I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t give you help in coping, because I haven’t figured it out myself. I wish there was something to say to make the pain go away, but I know there isn’t. Try to remember all the wonderful years you had with your Dad and take one day at a time.

Tia, I did the same thing a couple of months ago. I wrote a letter to Dr. Oz on Oprah’s site asking him to do a show about this cancer.

My thought now is since Dr. Oz is starting his own show in September, now we should bombard him with letters.

I checked to see if his show’s site was on line yet and I couldn’t find it.

There are so many examples of multiple family members with this cancer that it must be genetic.

I don’t think they will ever be able to prove that having a cancer gene–or predisposition, will always develop into cancer. I firmly believe there are other factors that come into play and I think at risk people can live and never develop cancer. Overall health, weight, diet, drinking, smoking and other environmental exposure can lead to the development of cancer or not–in my opinion.
I feel this way because of my experience with my husband and his family and 14 months of reading and trying to figure out this cancer stuff.

Sarah, My heart breaks for you– I ask all the time what happened to my life and whose life is this. I don’t think the pain ever goes away, we just learn how to deal with it. I understand the feeling of envy, I’m pretty sure that’s normal.
I lost my husband on December 27 from CC and then 12 days later lost my mom. I wake up every morning and it’s fresh all over again and it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse.
I imagine that your mom has passed on all of her wisdom to you, therefore you will know the answers to your questions.
Please don’t question your grieving, just let it happen.
    Stay strong

Danielle, Thanks for the kind words and your thoughts….I just started posting again in hopes that maybe something i say can help. I like checking in to see how everyone is doing. It’s painful but maybe part of healing.

Your Jim’s diet sounds the same as my husbands before CC. I learned real quick that what we put into our bodies is vital when sick.

I want to tell you what happened with my hubby not to worry you but to empower you with info.
The infection with my husband ended up being his stent was clogged with 2 gallstones and some sludge. They couldn’t figure this out even though all the symptons pointed to this. They kept saying tumor fevers also…and when we asked why the pain in his right side and shoulder, they said they didn’t know, but it’s probably the cancer. He had all the symptons of gallstones, but no matter how many pictures they took, they didn’t see it. I’m convinced that they overlooked that area because that’s where the tumor was. It took two months and going to a different hospital and doctor to figure out what was wrong.
Do they have an infectious disease’s doctor treating him?
Tell his oncologist that you want him scoped to take a look at the bile duct, maybe they’re missing something.
Also, I had to tell the doctors to give my husband probiotics because of all the heavy antibiotics they were giving him. All those antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad…and we need the good bacteria to stimulate our immune system. The doctor said something like…”yeah he really could use that” when I asked him for it.
I’m positive all the alternative stuff was working, but the doctors dropped the ball. My husband was strong and gaining weight while on chemo and he was bike riding about 3 miles.
I pray that things get better for you guys.

Danielle, First, I have to say that I am so impressed that a doctor actually recognizes the idea that nutrition can aid in fighting cancer.
I am totally convinced that removing toxic foods such a red meat, sugar, ect…can help.
I was guided by a book called “Outsmart you cancer”

    http://www.amazon.com/Outsmart-Your-Cancer-Alternative-Treatments/dp/0972886737

    and also
    Beating cancer with nutrition.
    http://www.amazon.com/Beating-Cancer-Nutrition-book-CD/dp/096383729X/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_2_img?pf_rd_p=304485601&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-2&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0963837281&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1X3ZM25Z11GDF766JSX2

These books were my bible… things were working for him in combination with chemo…and then he got an infection that went undiagnosed for 2 months…anyway long story.

Another thing I highly recommend to everyone, not just people fighting cancer, is supplements and herbs……these are the things I swear by…vitamin d-4000 iu’s, fish oil, vitamin c, green/white tea supplement, turmeric, ginger, flora, Essiac tea, MAGNESIUM, Milk Thistle. (I clear this stuff with several doctors and none of them had a problem with any of these. Please just make your doctor aware all supplements)

    http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_2_1x_A_Cancer_Treatment_in_the_Spice_Cabinet.asp
MD Anderson did a study about turmeric, it says it also enhances the effect of chemo….

This is an important discussion and appreciate any information regarding heredity.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my husband passed of cc (extraheptic), his mom passed of pancreatic cancer and her mother passed of pancreatic.

I am not taking a chance, therefore I have discussed with my children’s doctor what he will do for them starting at an earlier age…for instance, scans. I have also made an appointment for genetic counseling.

I have done major research with regard to nutrition—important vitamins and herbs to boost immunity, antioxidents, etc.

Smash, Lots of shakes….I used protein powder, yogurt, fruit…i kept lots of bags of frozen berries, peaches…etc. on hand and fresh bananas. Add some flax seed oil to yogurt also. If you have a juicer….juice 4 apples, 2 limes and 1 lemon–makes a great fresh apple juice. and juice other kinds of veggies for nourishment. These drinks will nourish her if she can’t put food in her mouth.

I would also start giving her turmeric pills. If she can’t take the pills, try giving her a tablespoon of turmeric everyday mixed with some oil olive with black pepper.
    http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_2_1x_A_Cancer_Treatment_in_the_Spice_Cabinet.asp

Also, ginger pills with help with the nausea….also, I kept a fresh ginger root in the house all the time….try some in a glass of water…sip on it all day.
and/or freeze the water in ice cube trays and let her suck onthe cubes.
Also, get her on vitamin d–google “vitamin d cancer” and you will see all the information out there.

As you can tell, I am a big proponent of adding natural stuff. The turmeric information from MD anderson…it’s credible enough for me…my kids take it now because of family predisposition.

    Good luck

Vincent, I am so very sorry you lost your beloved mother. I know from reading your posts that you did absolutely everything possible for her. You sound like an amazing son and I’m sure your mother was so proud.

Take all the time you need to mourn for your mom, you don’t have to be strong all the time, you are entitle to have your moments.

My son will be graduating college, in May, and his dad did not make it long enough to see that day. While my husband battle this monster last year, he was always worried about his children and their school. (Like your mom, I’m sure) I tell my son all the time that his dad will be watching him on the day he receives his college diploma and this is how he will honor his memory.

It will be hard but keep working on school because that’s what your mom wanted. I’m thinking you’re in college…..make sure you get some support/counseling from school…I know from my children, that’s it’s available.

    Take care of yourself.
