Russ…PS –
If there are no local oncologists you could get a second opinion from, perhaps you could check online (such as…MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Stanford Hospital) and contact them to find out how you can go about getting a second opinion.
I am new to this disease myself (my mom was just diagnosed a few months ago), but I do think second (even third) opinions are important, so hopefully you’ll be able to do that.
Take care!
megliSpectatorRuss,
I’m sorry to hear about your Mom and what you are going through.
I would recommend getting a second opinion on your Mom’s situation if it’s possible for you to do that.Best wishes to you both.
-MeghanmegliSpectatorCathy,
My Mom is in a sort of similar situation as your husband. Mom (age 63) had the whipple surgery in Oct ’06. So far, her ct scan and blood tests have come back clean. She is doing really well, walking on the treadmill several days each week. I’ve heard that staying active during chemo helps alleviate side effects like nausea and can even improve appetite.
She is doing the same chemo regimen as your husband: Gemcitabine 3 wks on, 1 wk off. 3 wks on, 1 wk off. Then 6 wks radiation, then another few courses of chemo. She is going through chemo right now, and so far the only real side effect is some mild to moderate nausea and lack of appetite.
Best of wishes to you both!
Meghan
megliSpectatorHi, Kate.
It’s good to meet you! I will definitely keep in mind what you said about staying optimistic. So many others with this disease are living life to the fullest, and I will remind myself to remain optimistic and be grateful for the fact that she is doing well today.I am sorry to hear about your Mom. You obviously are doing a great job supporting her, learning about this disease and respecting her views/wishes.
Have a good week!
Meghan
