    Hi, Eli,
Yes, it is interesting.that is why knowledge may play a role in all of these conversations on this message board. But then again, it may or may not work. For me, as a patient, all I can say about using CAM is,after researching reading and choosing what I think is the best CAM method to help myself, I will have no regrets when the time has come.
    Good luck again tomorrow.
    God bless.

    Hi, Susie,

The answer is no. I did not take or try to use melatonin because of you need a relative high dose(20-40mg) in order to attain some benefit to fight cancer from melatonin. Last year ,when I went to the DDW convention here sponsored by this foundation, I met the author of a poster which used IV melatonin for treatment of cancer. He insisted it works but required a much higher dose in IV formulation.
As you know melatonin is a sleeping aid used in the States(ie: dose=3mg at bedtime without RX); its side effect is therefore very logical– drowsiness which I do not want when I need to work in the morning. plus 3mg is too small a dose for anticancer or immuno enhanced activities;and IV formulation is definitely not my choice of treatment if I can avoid.
I hope I answer your question.
    God bless.

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting the question.
But if I may suggest, if people especially the younger generation who love and enjoy sushi; unless it is from a very reputable and expensive sushi restaurant; ; the raw fish may come from sources other than Japan; such as Thailand or Vietnam or even China or the southeast Asia region, then the frozen raw fish may contain the eggs of the liver worms and thus increase the chance to have cholangiocarcinoma or other forms of liver problems. Same reasoning for the people enjoy Thai or Vietnamese cooking especially the “hot pot”, if the water is not hot enough ;the same problem will exist too.
The other reason that the cholangiocarcinoma be detected more and more every year may be contributed to better diagnosis and awareness of the sub-types of the liver disease.
    God bless.

That is a very careful and thoughtful thing for you to post the pros and cons about this treatment as well as others in the future.

    Hi,
I think the MRCP suggestion by your hepatologist is a very good choice.
I was surprised by the rising of your mother’s bilirubin level. Was it caused by the radioembo because it blocks or damage also the bile ducts of the healthy parts of the liver too.and the bile of the health part of the liver has no place to go thru and thus back up and cause the bilirubin rise. That is why I think aMRCP is a good idea.
Please keep the faith in you , you and your sister are daughters that all of us wanted the most and nothing can replace the heart and soul of such caring and loving daughters for their parents. good luck and
    God bless.

    Hi,
Just let you know I took maitake mushroom extract PROx3 35 gtts BID (twice a day) after the first resection and the CCA returned after 2 years.
I stop taking it now after my 2nd resection and I am testing another herbal capsule call Yunzhi extract.brand name is “oncozac” -an immuno enhanced agent which is used thousands of years in the far east countries, 4 capsules twice daily. I also take D3 1000-2000units twice a day.
The reasoning behind the Yunzhi exact is : it is an immuno enhanced agent, that means it help the patient who is in remission, to increase his/her body defense systems to fight for the left over or hiding cancer cells that are too small to show up on the scans.
In general, most of the solid tumors appeared on the CAT scan or MRI only when they reach the sizes of about 1 cm3 in size;below that size,it is difficult to detect;and immuno enhanced agents work best when the tumors are in the earlier developmental stage, that is in general, the immuno enhanced agents work best when the tumor is below the sizes of 0.5cm3. and this is my reasoning behind taking the Yunzhi extract. Other immuno enhanced agents may work in the same way .
    God bless.

    Hi, lulu07,
If the last scan that shown recurrence is by PET scan; then I will suggest you the NEXT scan on 7/20 should use “CAT scan with contrast” of the chest, abdomen and pelvis.
In doing so ,you can confirm that you did have” tumor foci” instead of false positive reading from the PET.
    God bless

    Hi,
    Thanks for the above information.
Our hospital ,through the P & T committee will most likely to switch to Aloxi instead.
The maximum dose we administered now is 16mg IVPB as the FDA reported;and we will see whether the 12mg IVPB q4hr x3 doses (0.15mg/kg max. q4hx3 as per FDA) is practical or not for out patient chemotherapy
Please check the link below, I think the same adverse drug reaction, especially the cardio toxicity of this 5HT3 group of antiemetics will be extended to others in the future, so report any signs of side effect to your doctors is important.

    Hi, lulu07,
If I may suggested, and if the size of your recurrence tumor< 3 cm and the number of te tumor is less than 3 , no mets to other parts of the body , RFA or microwave ablation may be a good choice. 2nd opinion by interventional radiologist from John Hopkins or NY Pres. is recommended.
Less side effects and quicker recovery than surgery.less chemo agents to use for adjuvant chemotherapy if needed . Or none.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Most of the time, ERCP brushing is difficult to get good result especially the tumors grow along side the wall of the bile duct and not prutude outward into the bile duct. MRCP is another method to check the narrowing of the bile duct, combine with CA19-9 to make the call. Yes, I know patients can start chemotherapy without 100 % sure. By experienced oncologist or radiologist can do so base on their examinations and experiences of the patient.
Ian just a patient and not a doctor.
    God bless.
