    Hi,
Call Mayo Clinics where he gets treatments;and tell them what happened or may be drop in ER to get faster attention; I thought Trevor has diuretic pills like Lasix and spironolactone to help the swelling condition. Ask the TPN (the pharmacist or the outfit that prepared the TPN) or the nutritional dept. to adjust the sodium ,water and electrolytes content in the TPN to minimize the additional water accumulation problem; Ask him to put his feet up when painful.
Good luck Trevor, I will prayer for you.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Japanese are famous for their long-javity ; therefore it is not uncommon to see older people to have surgery done.
But the difference I think this study may not be applied to us lies in the body mass index(BMI),and the other related health problems. In short, obesity.
normal BMI is around or <25; and when BMI>30 or so, it is obesity.but I will make sure and ask for 2nd opinion about the BMI litmit.
    God bless.

    Hi,
The most important is that, after you explore all the opportunities for you father ,you make sure your dad knows each of the advantage and disadvantage of each treatment plans, then it is up to him, under your help to decide what he wants to do the treatment or not to choose anything at all. It is the right of the patient,of sound mind and good understanding of his illness to make the call. But whatever your dad choose after your devotion and love for him; you know you have given your best and there will be of no regret for you in the future.and in that way, you will feel much better and relief when memories play its part in you life
    God bless.

    Hi,
I am sorry that nothing can be done for your husband even at Vandabilt university hospital which research of this cancer are part of their research interest . It has been I think almost 17 months since the DX of this cancer , right? I think the doctors have tried their best for your husband.
As his doctors told you,his illness indeed is progressing as indicated by swelling of the legs and feets, and slurring in speech, a sign that may be related to the increasing ammonia level. I hope at this point to consider ” quality vs quantity of life” may not be a bad idea. I hope I am wrong in this case but try your best to let him know how much you love and care about him as each day goes by.
    God bless.

    Hi,Eli,
I took the maitake mushroom 36 drops twice daily after my first resection.
But after my second resection, I dropped it from my list. I do not think it xworks for me. Now I , after my second resection, I switch to take 4-5 ONCOZAC ( yunzhi extract) capsule twice a day to replace my complimentary medications. I do not know whether it works until the next resection comes, if it can prolong the time for resection (> 24 months or more) then I will continue to use it ,of course if the cancer never returns because of God’s Grace, then I will use it forever.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Three pronged approach is the best way to handle this cancer,so besides the medical oncology consult, you should also ask them to refer you to a radiation oncologist for consult whether other treatment plans are available, the surgical consult form a liver specialist is the other arm of the treatment, but I guessed you had already done so.
    God bless.

    Hi, Eli,
I did read this article twice. If your wife or patients have a hx of diabetes, it definite worth to try it on, it is much better than statins ,you know.the one that we discussed .if the patients are diabetes, definitely ask the doctor for it if no contraindications . Meteor min is generally a very safe drug with much less side effects than other diabetes medications.
But if patients are not diabetic and their lab( the glucose) q normal, then it may not be a good idea unless the patients knows very WELL about hypoglycemic symptoms so they can prevent fainting or other side effects as the result of low blood sugar. In some way, it may required immediate treatment such as glucose infusion or at least a quick glass of orange juice.
    God bless.

    Hi,Gavin,
If doxycycline (an antibiotic) can decrease the formation of ICC ,which the hepatitis B/C are the risk factors, then for me it will be the cheapest way to prevent recurrence.
Hopefully it will work on me as it works on the zebra fish.
You can buy 100 capsules for just 4 dollars here in the States.
Thanks for the info and I will look into it further.
Now, make sure to say hi to your mum , here in Chicago, the weather is fine ,sunny ,and in the low 80’s.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Just like your husband said before,”why rock the boat if it works so far”
Also, lately I see more combination therapy prescribed using Gemzar+5FU 48 hr infusion pump and Gemzar+ Xeloda (is the oral form of 5FU) . I will continue the same regimen of GEMCAP(Gemzar+capecitabine) until it does not work anymore. I will avoid the platin group at all cost until it is unavoidable.
BTW, the article mentioned by Eli is a good reference for those who want to compare most of the regimens used for this cancer.
    God bless.

    Hi,
FNAB as you have already known is not that specific and accurate if they hit the wrong spots. Having pain or not is not a reason for NOT finding out exactly what is going on inside the liver and the dilated bile ducts.
I did not have any pain when I discovered that I had this cancer like most of the other patients on this message board. As a matter of fact, my sister in law who died of bile duct cancer(the primary CA) about 2 months ago,did not suffer in any degree or form of pain at all.
It seems to me second opinion as I suggested before may provide early opportunity for better treatment protocol for your dad.
Every patient is different in their own case due to health status, risk factors and environmental influence . And caregivers should not compare each other’s case to determine the outcome of the patient and that is why 2nd opinion by medical professional is a must before decisions are made.
Internet comments from message board by different people, including ours, are for informations encouragement and sharing . Knowledge is one thing, but ultimately someone have to make decision based on the best available resources, and this is belonging to the radiation, medical oncologists as well as the institutions that can provide you the multidisciplinary approach for your dad.
The facts remain true that the earlier the correct diagnosis is made, the better outcome it will be in general.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Is this the SAME hepatologist or liver surgeon that you mentioned on 6/12 that he or she is the best hepatobiliary doctor in Colombia? How come at that time your message sounded like surgery is impossible and now it sounds like they did not think after all your dad’s situation is that bad and observation only is needed? How come one doctor gave you such a different diagnosis than the other? What kind of biopsy did they perform? ERCP Brushing or ERCP spyglass?
I am not a doctor, but if this is me, I will get a 2nd opinion from a radiation oncologist and medical oncologist consult right away without delay.
Base on your Scan reports, there are dilated bile ducts which is not good, and there are hypo dense images in your liver. But what do I know, I am not a doctor.Good luck and
    God bless.

    Hi,
In addition, I just have the chance to talk to the pathologist that I know from work.
she told me it is rare but it is possible thru the blood circulation; all it needs to do is an immunochemistry assay for the tissue sample of the uterus and the bile duct cancer to see whether the cell structures of both of the cancer is related.
But she said it is also possible that instead of thinking metastasized from the CCA; there is possible that a patient can have diagnosis of 2 different PRIMARY cancers at the SAME time.(ie: both the uterus and the CCA are primary cancers instead of related.)
    God bless.
