    Tiffaney,

May I ask what exactly is a erpc? I do believe second opinions are a MUST! My husband’s first doctor wanted to begin chemo right away and offered no hope with or without the chemo. We went to the Cleveland Clinic and was given a whole different senerio (much better/hope/options). He has now been considered a candidate for surgery. I will keep you in my prayers…

    Thanks G & Lisa,

G…will you be collecting LTD through your employer and SSD at the same time? As of yet, my husband’s employer has not asked him to file any FMLA papers.

Lisa…When will you begin paying Cobra? While on STD or if/when you move to LTD?

Good point…I’ll have to ask my employer if/when I can add my husband as I think your right…there are only certain times throughout the year we can do this.

Here we go on our journey…Docs stated will pursue surgery…husband is having a right portal vein emboliztion on the 15th. Wait time for surgery, so we are told, is about 4-6 weeks from the embolization procedure. Has anyone had this procedure done and if so…side affects?

    Hi Candy,

I appreciate your sharing. My husband had a biopsy this past Thursday to see if the cancer had spread to his abdominal wall. Results…negative…YIPPIE! That was what we were hoping for as the surgeons stated that if the results were negative…surgery would be an option. We have yet to schedule a follow up appointment…will do that tomorrow and go from there. We will see what the surgeons have to say. In our first consult with the surgeons I do know that my husband asked how much time does he have with this disease…the surgeon stated he was not getting into thinking “time lines” at this point (prior to the last biopsy) and he was very optimistic. He informed us to go home and enjoy each day. However, when I questioned him on something else, can’t remember what, he did cop a bit of an “I AM A SURGEON” attitude. You know the kind…a patient for goodness sake asking detailed questions to clarify information that he has provided…I think he felt insulted but what the heck! He did answer the questions though…time will tell. Where is University Hospital? We live in Akron…I see your from Cleveland?
Will e-mail you sometime. Mine is sillyet@aol.com. Prayers for you, your brother, and your family.

    Hi Candy,

My husband is seeing the surgeons currently at Cleveland Clinic specifically for cc. We are fairly new there at the moment. We’ve met with an oncologist, Dr. Shirpiro and two surgeons, Dr. Miller and Dr. Aucejo. Is your brother still being seen at the Clinic? How has his experience been thus far? I”ll keep him and your family in my prayers….

Hello again everyone! Thank you for all of your thoughts etc. Will give just a brief history of my husbands journey. He was diagnosed mid March after many appts. and tests. First visit to an oncologist locally, Akron, Ohio, informed us that there was no hope and he needed to start chemo asap! 6-12 months regardless! No options available! Needless to say we decided to go to the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion. The oncologist there informed us that he was going to be a team player…follow thru on all options regardless…and we were in this together! Wow! What a difference. We were scheduled for an appointment immediately with the director of surgical department for liver cancer. After a few appointments etc. we ended up today in Cleveland for another biopsy (Cleveland Clinic likes to do their own everything…didn’t really take much interest in all of the CT’s and biopsy’s already completed in Akron…go figure. The first obstacle was to see if the cancer had spread to the abdominal wall as previous CT scans showed a blistery looking rash in that area. Good news…instant results today noted no signs of cancer there. Dr. states it seems not to have spread anywhere except to one of the lymph nodes. Other organs look good and the liver is functioning normally. Guess I should say that his CC is in the bile ducts within the liver. Once the Dr. who completed the biopsy today consults with the “Boss” so to speak, they will give us a call to let us know what comes next. He is stating my husband is a good candidate for the resection. I’ll have to read some of your postings to see if anyone has posted any info on their experience with resections. Does anyone use the chat rooms? I’ve been in but no one is ever there. Maybe I’m going in too late. Please continue to let me know your thoughts and experiences as we all move through this journey together.
