I want to say thank you to the wonderful people who help me take care of my Mom. I spoke to the oncologist office last night and waited until morning to check the situation again. The oncologist prescribed an antibiotic (broad spectrum) for at home after they saw blood work from the hospital. I do not think all cultures were complete. We may have to address this again soon, but I hope i can get through the weekend without a panic. Bless you and have a good weekend.

    Thank you Lainy
I hope it’s okay to wait until morning to take Mom to the hospital.
Are there symptoms with this that she will have now.
I am now going to review your other posts.
Please forgive me Lainy if you have to tell me again.
    I really get upset.

Yesterday I took Mom to the emergency room with a temperature of 103. Spent all day there. I wish I didn’t have to go to the the emergency room because it’s totally insane, but I felt I had to do something. She had lots of tests, fluids, tylenol. They did not think it was infection. I am really nervous about the up and down of temperature. Sometimes its 98, sometimes 100.
Is this part of the illness? She recently had the stent changed so I dont think that is the problem. I really need some help with this. Thanks again to all who respond. You help me care for Mom.

Took Mom to the emergency room today because she had a 103 temp and then chills. She had a stent replaced on Friday, but I think she’s been getting some highs and lows with temperature lately. Did chest xray, ct scan and ultrasound today. We were there from around 9am to 8 pm. I do not like going to the emergency room, but I got nervous and didn’t know what else to do. They did not seem to think she had an infection. They did give her fluids and tylenol. They say it’s okay to give motrin at home for fever. Does anyone have any information regarding the flucuation in temperature. Is this part of the illness and will it happen again.
    As always, thank you.

I am going to have Mom eat beets thanks to Percy. I know she likes them.
Mom had to have a stent change out yesterday. I thank God it went okay.
She wasn’t feeling well after her first chemo treatment 2 weeks ago.
I wanted to asked about a post by Betsy about an actual bile thinner medication. Which doctor would have suggested this? Everyone on this site is so helpful. I am so thankful for your support. And, I am always thankful when you are feeling good – after all you go through – to help me is a true blessing.

Today I took Mom for fluids – 3 hours to drip, drip, drip. I hope this improves her situation. She had a few days of not so nice side effects. The oncologist said her blood work looked better. She only had a little something to eat today, cereal in am and soup broth. They will try another treatment next week if all looks good. And at the end of this month, she needs to have a stent change out which is on her off week from chemo. She needs to have the stent change out and I hope the chemo will not be too bad the previous week. I will be asking lots of questions during next week’s chemo. Do many people get ill like this on the first chemo treatment?
Thanks my friends who are helping me to learn the best way to help Mom.
Eli – I will ask about the med your mentioned. Nice to hear from you Gavin.

I saw a posting by Jemima. I am happy about your Mom. My Mom just started chemo and she’s tired. I need to check as I thought steriods were given with treatment. I am not sure what they are suppose to do. I want my Mom to maintain weight. I asked about vitamins; the oncologist office said as long as she’s eating good…..they did say give her Boost which I did. Is there any time one can get a treatment and not feel tired? Good thing the treatment is every other week. My other concern is that Mom’s been anemic for a number of years and I hope this does not get worse with treatment. I would like to avoid transfusions if that’s possible. Thanks to all listening and helping me.

I have read your post and can relate 100% as I help my Mom (76) who has bile duct cancer. I would get a good explanation from the doctor (as best you can) as to the type of stent. There are many reasons why one is used over the other. This site has been such a big help to me in learning. Thank you for mentioning the temperature taking and to Lainy about the chills. I hope your Mom will feel better today.

    Percy;

Thank you for the post regarding second opinion. Although I did not post an introduction, I have contacted many helpful members to help my Mom battle bile duct cancer. She starts chemo this week; the kind you mentioned in your post.
This site is a blessing for me. Thank you and everyone for helping me.
