Thanks guys, he was told he doesn’t need to be seen for 3 months. I think we should make an appointment though as we have a lot of questions that we just forgot when we got the news

Emir Hoti went in to do the whipple but didn’t go thru with it when he saw my fathers cancer had metastasized around the abdominal cavity. My concern is more the oncology side of it. He is being treated palliatively, and that’s probably the right thing to do, but I just want to be sure. The oncologist we have in limerick is supposed to be excellent, but I think we should see someone else just in case. It’s confusing me because there’s nothing in his liver. It’s only in his bile duct which was rerouted during surgery and “floating” around his abdominal cavity.

Hi, thanks for the replies:) Gerry, my father was in st Vincent’s too. He was diagnosed there. His doctor was mr hoti. He’s seeing the Onc in limerick now and he’s on this gemcytobine. I asked about cisplatin and they don’t do it. I don’t think much is going to be done for him in limk, I think they have him written off. The thing is, he had a really good baseline scan.. His liver is uninvolved. I dunno what to think. He’s a kind of guy that will just accept what he is being told. Who is the Onc in Vincent’s. do they offer more treatment there?

Hello, my father started his chemo Thursday. The baseline CT they did was very reassuring. It showed no cancer in the liver at all. Just an enlarged lymph node in his abdomen in addition to the primary in his bile duct. This is really good isn’t it?

Thank you:) were in Ireland. He’s 67. He became jaundiced 3 mths ago so I brought him to a private hospital an hour away from home. He had ct and MRI there, showed nothing. Then he had ercp after ercp. He had his gall bladder removed then which they thought was his problem and they thought he had a stone in his duct hence the jaundice. The gall bladder was full of stones. He eventually was referred to the main hepatobiliary hospital here. At this point he had a drain for the bile in situ for about a month. He went for endoscopic ultrasound and a biopsy came back inconclusive. He was then scheduled for the whipple for tuesday gone. We were told his tumours are not resectable and chemo is the only option. The problem with second opinions here is the lack of specialists in the country. We are currently under the lead hepatobiliary surgeon here, and we are awaiting the oncologist appt

Hi, my Dad was diagnosed with this cancer on Tuesday. He was to have a whipple but when the surgeon went in he found nodules and tumours in the small intestine too so the whipple was abandoned and the tumour blocking the bile duct was bypassed instead. Chemo has been suggested but I am reading that it doesn’t work on this cancer. He too presented with jaundice and dark urine, pale stools. He has no pain other than surgery. It took nearly 3 months to get this diagnosis. Can anyone tell me more? Oh, and the surgeon said he can’t be 100% sure but he thinks the liver is uninvolved at this time. The tumour in the small intestine is 1 cm and is advanced
