Professor Juan Valle is a Professor of Medical Oncology in the University of Manchester (Institute of Cancer Studies); part of the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre. He is based in the Department of Medical Oncology at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust within the Gastrointestinal Disease Group and treats cancers of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract, neuroendocrine tumours and colorectal cancer. He is Head of Service for The Christie Neuroendocrine Team which has, under professor Valle’s leadership, been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) by ENETS (the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society). Prof. Valle is a member of the UK National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) Upper Gastrointestinal Clinical Studies Group and member of the hepatobiliary and pancreatic subgroups. In addition he is Chair of the Neuroendocrine subgroup. Professor Valle has been awarded a number of grants for research leading to numerous publications and presentations and national and international meetings and is a peer-reviewer for a number of international medical journals. He leads and participates in phase Ib to III clinical trials in the field of hepatobiliary cancers (pancreas, biliary tract and hepatocellular carcinoma) and neuroendocrine tumours and collaborates closely on research with the Cancer Research-UK Manchester Institute and the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre. He is a member of ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology), ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology), UKI NETS (UK and Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society) and ENETS (European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society).
