Hi! My GP never put me on Vitamins, I put myself on them. I have had a new GP since July and I went off everything but a Cholesterol RX. I went from 10 pills a day to one pill every other day. LABS are always perfect. I feel good. Nothing has changed with me. I had a total Colectomy a year ago and a tumor on the brain removed in January and headed for one more small tumor removal the 25th. Both are benign. Point is at 76 (on April 20th) I sailed through both surgeries after going off my pills. Now, I don’t tell people to do this without a Doctor’s advice but I was lucky not to need supplements.
Another reason I do not believe in these cures is that my daughter had a boyfriend who got Lymphoma. He went on Vitamin C intravenously to the tune of 50K. The Lymphoma stabilized and 6 months later took a dive and in a year he was gone.
I truly feel that if something that the ONC feels will not hurt or interfere with other treatments one is going through are ok but I do not feel they will cure or help cure. And most important always let the ONC know what you are doing. The best we can do to hang in and hang on until what we need is here! New treatments are forth coming and we need to remain realistically optimistic. Best wishes to your family!

Lainy you say,”She asked me if it ever showed on my LABS that I was short of anything and I said never.”
Did your doc test you for any vitamins? A,E,D,C,B or sulforaphane?

Doctors ususally only recommend things that have been thru clinical trials which can cost a billion dollars or more. SInce a natural product can not be patented there is no fininical incentive to do so.

Hi Gavin. Andrea is still going to Juice the broccoli but she wants me to feel the benefits of brocolli and spirulina too.

I am not willing to juice the broccoli so instead I am going to try the tablets, I am not sure I can drink the spirulina but I will give it a go.

I am currently looking into the benefits of using 100% pure lavender oil, yet again it seems to be a cure all.

It is anti viral, anti bacterial, anti fungal, enables people to sleep, relax, cures coughs, colds, cold sores and maybe helps with dementia. These are just a few of the claims.

I can try it on my cold sores and if it cures my cough and cold and helps me to relax then I am on to a winner.

Hazel, I am a firm believer in what ever works to keep one feeling/looking good and mentally up beat about a bad hand that was dealt out. And as always with the Doctor’s knowledge. I have also discovered in my older age that a sense of humor really helps as well. I pre registered today for a surgery I am going to have Monday morning and I tell you, I don’t know where it was coming from, but I might as well have been putting on a comedian’s act! The Nurse’s especially cracked up when I told them I never had hot flashes….only power surges! Sometimes, laughter IS the best medicine! And it does not cost a lot!

Hi, Lainy. I was very cynical about the claims made for broccoli and spirulina, but when I started to research into them I started to believe the claims.

Maybe because I need to believe there is a miracle cure?

But she does look so healthy so it is worth giving it a go, if only to please Andrea.

Hope that this works well for Andrea Hazel. As far as doing research into things and reading about stuff on the net etc all I would say is just be careful about the stuff that you are reading and who is publishing it. As you say, there are so many claims made about stuff and when I was doing and still do research etc I just stick to medical journals now.

Hope that the tablet version has some benefits to Andrea and please let us know how that goes.

    My best to you both,

    Gavin

Hazel, I wish I knew the answer. Perhaps as some say there is not much research on that plan of treatment as it would destroy the Pharmaceutical Companies? I guess what turned me off was when my daughter had a Boyfriend who developed Lymphoma. He went to a well known Naturalist who put him on HEAVY doses of Vitamin C by Infusions. After he spent 50 Thousand in 1 year the Lymphoma returned. That just sticks in my mind. Say, speaking of Broccoli does it have to be eaten raw? I have a real easy recipe for roasted broccoli.

Hi, Lainy. There are lots of foods and drugs that claim to help cancer sufferers and they seem to have valid chemical properties, like cannabis. But why is there not more research into them, as they surely are cheaper than developing more invasive drugs?

Andrea looks amazing and wants me to try taking spirulina and broccoli juice, mainly because I am run down with this cold.

I could not be bothered juicing broccoli heads each day and it takes ages to clean the machine so I am opting for the tablet form of sulforaphane, which is the main active ingredient in brocolli.

I normally buy my health products from Boots chemist or Holland & Barrett health food stores but sulforaphane is not available over the counter from them or any other UK supplier as far as I can tell. Very strange?

So I have had to order the capsules on-line, which I don’t like doing. The company making them is Swanson GreenFoods, which I hope is a trustworthy company.

Hazel, I sure would hope someone could discover a magical cure to all things but in my mind if anything was a cure all why would Doctors not recommend it. Guess I am much a skeptic but I also feel if it is too good to be true it probably is not true. But again, if the DOC says OK and it doesn’t hurt anything, why not try it. I will be curious to see if it makes you feel different in some way.

Hi Gavin, Andrea has not had any problems so far but of course it is early days yet.

I have been researching sulforaphane and it seems to be a cure all panacea.

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:-
Basic research on sulforaphane includes study of mechanisms for neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, spinal cord injury and gastric diseases .

I do not fancy juicing broccoli so I am going to try the tablet version and will let you know how I get on.

My apologies Hazel, thanks for letting me know. I too will keep my fingers and toes crossed as well that your daughter does not have too many adverse reactions as well.

    Thinking of you both.

Lainy, how true your words are. My daughters and their children are the most precious people in the world to me, and when they hurt, I feel it too.

My mum is 86 years old and she still tells me off as if I was a little child, once a mum, always a mum.

Andrea starts taking her first chemo tablets today, fingers and toes are crossed that she does not have too many adverse reactions. Her bloods were all green, so she has been prescribed the highest dose of capecitabine.

Maybe the juice and spirulina have helped?

Shhhh, Mum, we not only care we will not say a word, this is between you and us! If you find comfort here, and we hope you do, that is the important thing. Us MUMS have a common denominator, that being how much we hurt when our children hurt!

Hi, Gavin, thanks for your reply. I must have confused you as I am the mother and it is my daughter whom I am trying to help to beat this awful disease.

I don”t think she feels ready to meet with any cancer support groups, she seems to think that we can find out all the information she needs.

That is why I am so glad I found this site as you have so much useful information but more than that, you all care.

Hi, Marions. Thanks for the links. I will pass them on to my daughter.

She goes to Christie’s tomorrow and should get her scan results, fingers are crossed these will be clear.

If her bloods are right she will start her chemo tablets, capecitabine, so we all need to know what is good for her and will try to keep her germ free. Not easy as most people have coughs and colds as it is so damp and miserable here in the UK.
