MarionNovember 7, 2014 at 9:04 pm #85104lainySpectatorHi Deb. If I learned anything through all this it was to listen to your Gut, it will not steer you wrong. I feel like I graduated from Gut 101. When something doesn’t feel right then you have the right for another opinion. We are strong believers in 2nd and 3rd opinions some have even had 4. When dealing with this rare disease all good ONCs will not mind another opinion. And you will never look back and wonder. Very interested to hear what the Doc says about this. Doesn’t sound like a definition of ‘stable’. Best of luck and looking forward to his answer.

November 7, 2014 at 7:38 pm #85102debnorcalModeratorHi all, I may be posting in the wrong location, but this seems closest to my topic, which is definition of “stable”. My husband’s tumor measured 3.1cm (TR) and 2.0cm (AP) on 4/17/14. His latest measurement, again per MRI, on 11/6/14 was 7.1cm (TR) by 32.cm (AP). The RECIST definition of stable indicates up to 20% growth. According to my calculations, my husband’s tumor has grown 130% (TR) by 60% (AP) in 6 months, which appears to be way outside the parameters of stable. His doctor sends notes such as “good news…it’s stable) along with these results. I plan to pose this question to him today but thought I’d consult our wonderful “experts” first. Thank you, Debbie

Take care,

October 26, 2014 at 11:51 pm #85100patty-in-illinoisSpectatorHi Serena~
I have had IHCC for 3 years and 8 months. My local oncologist said I have the slowest growing CC he has ever seen in his life. Dr. Javle (at MD Anderson in Houston, Tx.) who I see every 3 months says I am very lucky to have a slow growing cancer…..otherwise, I would most likely not be here today with stage 4 cancer. Celebrate every day…..and may God always be right beside you!!Hugs~~

October 12, 2014 at 6:38 pm #85097marionsModeratorSerena….according to the NCI Fact sheet it appears that your Mom’s tumor tends to grow slower than that the “undifferentiated” type.
Please take a look at this link:

MarionOctober 12, 2014 at 8:42 am #10647anrena18SpectatorHi all!
I’ve been reading a bunch if older posts about whether this is an aggressive vs slow growing cancer and it looks like there are mixed reviews?
I keep thinking about my moms case and wonder if there was something that could have been done to detect it earlier… Well here’s a little background:1.5-2 years ago (2012)- mom had ultrasound of abdomen. Nothing unusual noted other than “fatty liver”
May 2014 – mom gets abdominal pain. Doctor just prescribes proton pump inhibitors! Nothing helps so order ultrasound and a 5 -cm mass revealed in bile duct (Klatskins)Blood test were Normal, bilirubin under 1, tumor marker normal
June 2014 -jaundice.So my question is: if ultrasound from 1.5-2 years ago did not show anything, does a 5 cm tumor that presumably grew within that time, consider itself fast or slow growing? Aggressive? Moms pathology report showed squamous cell moderately differentiated.
I’m going to ask my moms oncologist at next appointment but thought I would ask here first since many of you have already helped me out with my previous posts! Thank you guys again!
Serena
