POSITIVE THINKING IS SOMETHIMES HARD,,TOM IS A VERY STRONG MAN.. I LOVEYOU HIM SO MUCH AND WIL STAND BY HIS SIDE ALL THE WAY.THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INPUT YOU ALL GAVE TO US,,AND LET YOU ALL NOW HOW TOM IS DOING AFTER SURGERY..OKE!!!

moontje…so sorry to hear of the recurrence. The good news is that it has been found and that the physicians are proactive with their treatments. Personally, I prefer to compare this cancer to that of a chronic disease hence, with the more current aggressive approach taken the long term outlook may very well look very promising. Therefore, dear moontje, try to take it one day at a time and stay as positive as possible. For all we know, this may be the last you hear of this cancer.
Regarding chemotherapy, if any, it may be suggested following the upcoming resection. The surgeon will have the opportunity to see with his eyes that what has not been able to detect via scans.
Good luck with everything. Know that a million good wishes are heading your way and that your husband’s ability to fight off this cancer looks very promising.

I am a patient of this disease for four and half years since diagnosis and I had 3 resections and other procedures to extend my quality of life.
Recurrence is always in my mind since day one for there is NO cure for this disease. As you know by now , even after resection or transplant will not guarantee the NO return of CCA ;for the literature always use the word of “POSSIBLE” cure instead of CURE. My personal point of view is that biologically, if the liver cells can regenerate itself,so does the CCA cells in the liver and the bile ducts , even just one CCA cell left after surgery ( both originated from hepatocyte).And only a few of us are so lucky to pass the 10 year mark or the 15year mark without recurrence. But I always thank God for His Grace for the extra time He gives me no matter how many months or years left.
Compare to intrahepatic CCA ( which I have),and your husband’s distal CCA, the chance of recurrence for your husband is much lesser than mine.(<50% vs50-75%). I do not think your husband needs chemotherapy before surgery based on your description above since the tumor is small.However on many other occasions chemotherapy are often administer as neoadjuvant chemotherapy to shrink the large tumor before surgery.I hope to above info give you some answers to your question.
God bless.I am sorry to hear the cancer is back, and you and Tom have to go through this again. Adjuvant therapy is often suggested to try to ensure no new growth igpf there are any rogue cells left. Most surgeons don’t want chemo 3 or more weeks prior to surgery, so that is a question for the doctor.
I think, especially with this cancer, that even with resection, the thought of recurrence is never completely out of mind. But I hope you did, and will, celebrate life after he heals from surgery!Dear moontje – so sorry Tom’s cancer is back after 5 years. It is good that he is eligible for surgery as yes that is a word we love to hear here. I don’t know about chemo before surgery since we went right to surgery after diagnosis. My husband had a Klatskin’s tumor and because of placement they took about 60% of his liver along with some surrounding structures. The surgeon is pretty sure they got it all but we have started chemo on the advice of the oncologist who wants the best shot possible. They (surgical team and oncology team) told us the only change for a full remission (cure?!) was to have surgery. Now we play a waiting game. Good luck with it all and keep us posted. I am especially interested to hear how it goes.

Dear Moontje, I am so very sorry to read this about Tom. I can’t help with Chemo questions as Teddy never had Chemo but I know you will be hearing from other Members on the subject. I am glad however, about the resection as we are a crazy lot here who love the word surgery! I hope the Chemo goes well and the surgery. Like my Teddy used to say, “now we know the problem, let’s fix it!” I am sending you my best wishes and please keep us updated. Be Strong!
hello everyone, tom his cancer is back. after 5 years. at the moment he has a embolisation of the vena porta,and about 2 weeks he wil have a resection of the right lobe of the liver 60%.
the tumor is very small,but it is on the same side as a klatskin. is it better to get chemo or radiation before the operation or not, and after??? wll he for ever be cured,after resection or does it always come back..whe are so afraid again.. thanks everyone for being there for us.moontje
