YES, Duke, CHUTZPAH is needed to get through anything in life and you are what I would call a man with CHUTZAH and HUMOR! That combo will get one through anything. With that said you have every right to vent after all, you are the one on this nightmare of a journey. You are a real MENCH! Now everyone can look up that word!!!! spelling may be off a letter.
Maybe my expectations were unrealistic. The main tumor had decreased from 19 to 10 cm in about 10 months and I naturally hoped for a continuation. Onc will probably order another CT in 2-3 months. Until then will monitor for changes in alk-phos and CA19-9.
When I read posts from others, I am continually reminded how good I have it. I am tolerating chemo extremely well. Which is maybe why I’m thinking I could go a little more aggressive if the results support it. Before I retired I drew the generic survival curve (we’ve all come to know and hate) for one of my friends. I told him that as long as the curve doesn’t drop to zero, someone has to be out there and I intend to be one of them. His reply is not suitable for a family site like this, but it was his way of being supportive (LOL). Something along the lines that, if chutzpah is sufficient to accomplish that goal, I have enough to succeed and leftovers to share.

Stable is good and like Kris and Melinda says, tons of people live with stable. Hoping that the news continues to be good for you with the Gem and remember to keep us updated on how things go for you.

Duke, it is my understanding that as long as you had no bad reactions you can try the original chemo again. But your onc may want to switch it up as the tumor(s) may have built up tolerance to it. Good luck! I live with stable!! Have grown to love that word!

I did Gem/Cis for the first 6 months with only stable results….due to toxicity of the cisplatnin, they left me on Gem only in which my tumors started to grow again. I then went to Avastin with stable results again…..until toxicity took effect again. That is when I found the clinical trial at NIH. I know that everyone responds differently to each chemotherapy regimen so it is hard to say what results to expect.I also wanted to state that STABLE is not a bad thing, as long as they are not growing that gives you some time to research other options. Hang in there and keep being proactive! God Bless.

I had eight rounds of gem/carbo then my onc changed to gem only to take stress off my liver. Liver tumor had been steadily decreasing while on gem/carbo. After seven rounds of gem only, the tumor is now “stable” (no longer decreasing).
Have people gone back to gem/carbo (or gem/cis) after being on gem only?
Or,
Did you change again, maybe to Folfox, or something else?
If you stayed on gem only, did your tumor remain stable?
