Welcome to the site – I delight stent number 2 is doing its job. I’m on stent number 2 also (which has lasted 5 months), the 1st stent lasted only 1 month (go figure). CC is a rare cancer and its important that your Dad’s medical team have experience of treating this desease and that QE is also experienced. In this respect, there are numerous members from the UK that may guide you. At this stage your Dad’s medical team should be in a position to advise of the exact location, size and treatment plan.Please keep us posted on your Dad’s progress.

Thank you for your kind words, it helps to know that someone else has been through the same and is now doing well. I’ve just got back from visiting him and the doctors are pleased with the stent so far and hopefully he may be home Friday after nearly 5 weeks in hospital. Then we can start kicking this cancer into touch!!

I join the others in welcoming you & sending best wishes to you, your dad & your son.
My sister had 2 or 3 ineffective stents before they put the latest one in & bingo – everything started draining!! They then got her on Gem/Cis as soon at the bili came down enough & she’s tolerated it well. She’s half way through her last cycle & is feeling SO much better overall.

Glad to hear that they managed to get your dads stent inserted okay and I hope that works well for him. And great to hear that the QE want your dad to start on gem/cis and I hope they can do this very soon. Yes you are so right in that each day is indeed very precious.

While i’m writing this the sun is shining, hopefully a sign today is going to be a good day! Went to visit dad last night but he’d only just come back from having his stent put in and was still on another planet lol!
The good news is that while the first hospital he was in told him no treatment was likely to be offered and he’d got months to live, the QE Hospital have told him he is going to have Gemcitabine and Cisplatin. I am going to ring the Clinical Nurse Specialist today to find out more, as we still don’t know what stage or location of the tumor. I know operating would have been the best outcome but this to us is good news too, if it gives him another few years it is much better than months, each day is precious.
Lainy, you are so right, my liitle munchkin will help my Dad fight this. I was pregnant with my son when my Dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer 9 years ago. He kicked that cancer and he will certainly do his best to kick this. The house is so quiet without my little man but the weather is lovely and hopefully he’s having the time of his life!

Andie, let’s hope for step 2 and that the stent behaves! I will bet that your father’s best RX is that little munchkin! Grand children just light up our lives. No matter how old they get! Sending lots of hope towards you on the stent placement!
My Dad was recently diagnosed with CC. Today he is having another stent put in as the first one didn’t work. He is now in QE Birmingham, after 4 weeks in RHH Dudley. We are being positive and calling this step 1. We don’t know how many steps we have to come but we are determined to fight them all together.
My little man is off to school camp today. it’s the first time he has been away from home and i’m going to miss him like mad. A few weeks ago this was my only worry, how i wish it still was. He’s only 8 and loves his Grandad so much. We haven’t told him how ill my dad is, i don’t think he needs to know at the moment, he’s only 8.
Fingers crossed next time i post the stent has worked and my Dad is no longer jaundiced. Then we can fight step 2!!
