I had to laugh when reading these post about getting new vehicles. My husband Tom has an inoperable tumor in his liver (CC) and has already undergone a resection. He was given 6 months, and now some 20 months later he is undertaking ‘remodeling’ of the garage and building himself a workshop. He may never be able to use it given his condition, but at least it gives him something to focus on rather than CC. So getting a new workshop or a new vehicle – it’s all GOOD!!! Focusing on the positives rather then on the negatives is ALWAYS good.
Go with God and KEEP KICKIN’ THAT cancer.

Hi All,
I can’t take cisplatin as me Crea is too high and it can make my kidneys to disfunktional, so the second best option is to have oxalplatin with gezmar.
When didi your granmother leave helsinki and do you know any Finnish words?

Welcome to this wonderfull sight. I laughed when I saw your post about the Jaquar and Toms post about Ben getting a Porsche. My husband bought himself a truck he has been researching and dreaming about owning for years. I say good for you and every minute of pleasure it brings you.
My grandmother was from Helsinki but left when she was very young.I wish you all the best in your treatment. If it is similar to gemzar and cisplatin that seems to be the protocol here in U.S.
My husband has done very well with it. I’m sure others will comment on their experiences soon.Peony
Good for you Jukka, if that’s what you want, go for it!! My Ben went out and bought a Porsche after his diagnosis (I thought he was crazy) but he has loved every minute of it (and so have I).
As for your chemo recommendation, Ben just finished what is known as the standard protocol for CC, a combination of Cisplatin and Gemcitabine and his tumors are almost gone (you can read his history in the chemotherapy section of the board). It looks like GEMOX is a combination of Gemcitabine and oxyplatin so sounds like it’s close, I know others have been on that combination but don’t know what the difference is…

Welcome to our little ‘family’ Jukka:
I agree with you about 2nd and 3rd opinoins! My husband was on oral Xeloda then progressed to Gem/Cisplatin. He is currently considered to be in ‘remission’. He did have 28 rounds of radiation before chemo as well.
Currently he is on very little medication – nothing for cancer right now and all his numbers look pretty good. He was able to have a successful resection but presented with a new inoperable tumor 18 months later. One onc told him to go home and get his affairs in order that he had maybe 6 months. Thank heavens we did not listen to that onc. 20 months later he is still here with me! Just goes to show that no one has an expiration date stamped on their butt.
Keep that positive attutide, that is half the battle.

Dear Jukka – You seem to have a positive attitude and we believe that attitude is a huge part of this process. A positive attitude can take you places you couldn’t go to under other circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we pray that your care at the University Hospital is excellent and produces the very best outcome. I have no experience with the chemo you mentioned. Hello Jukka and welcome to our wonderful family but sorry you had to join us. It sounds like you have a wonderful attitude along with a treatment plan, that is a winning combination. You are an excellent advocate for yourself. If you go to our search button at the top of the page and type in GEMOX any previous posts containing the word Gemox will come up. Thanks for that. Great to hear that you have had consultations with 3 other specialists, and yes you are right in that the more opinions you seek the better informed you are for making your decisions regarding your treatment. And from what you have said, it sounds like you are in good hands, and also that you have a very positive attitude, and that is very good to hear.
I hope that your scan goes well on the 21st, and I will keep my fingers crossed for the best possible news, and please let us know how it goes.

My CC is in stage IV, which means that it has advanced to other parts of me, where exactly, I’m not certain. I will have a new scan made in 21st.
I will be treated in Finland at the helsinki University Hospital, the top place in our country.
Since I heard that I have CC I have had consultations with not only one but three other cancer specialists. It’s always good to have more than one opinion.
I think the most valuable issue is to have strong believe to the chosen treatment. Human mind works mysterious ways!
With positivity and strong trust in what ever you are doing gives the best results.

Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all and I’m sorry also to hear that the doctors were not able to complete your surgery. From what I have read from the members here, not being able to complete a surgery once started happens quite a bit. I am glad that you have joined us all here as you will get so much support and help from all of us. And please, feel free to ask any questions that you might have and we will all do what we can to help in answering them.
I can’t really help you with regards to your chemo questions as my dad was not able to have chemo and he had PDT as his treatment. But I am sure that others will be along soon to share their experiences of chemo with you. In the meantime, we do have a good chemo board here that may be of use to you, and also, the search forum function at the top of the page will throw up many discussions involving chemo from our members.
Are you being treated in a hospital in Finland? I look forward to reading more of your posts.
