Does this mean we are close to the end?

Patsy…the other place to search is in the green bar, on top of this page….where it says: Search function. When you click on that and enter a word in “key word search” it will then lead you to you all postings from other members. This specific function is hiding a wealth of information relating to this cancer. As in your case I entered “paracentesis” and I believe, 3 postings appeared (one of it being yours.) You may also want to punch in “ascities” which is what the fluid is called. Many more conversations will pop up re: this particular issue. It is really difficult to enjoy the moment of the presence when our loved one is offered palliative care only. And, that for many reasons with fear being one of them. Tomorrow, when your Dad feels better you will also feel better. As Heather had mentioned: no one really knows the answer to your question therefore, you have one more wonderful day with your Dad, and another, and another and……
Please, stay in touch because, the support on this site is the best I have ever encountered. Remember also, there is Dr. Giles. We are so fortunate to have him. You may write your thoughts and questions to him and be prepared to receive some of the most comforting answers.

MarionHey Patsy! My husband Lee is going in for his second procedure tomorrow morning. This will be his second. His first one was done on December 19. Now, it is my understanding that the swelling is due to the chemotherapy he is on…oxyplatin…I could be wrong, but I think that is the case. Lee is also taking a diuretic in addition to keeping the swelling down. Lee was given two months to live in April of last year….so take your husband’s advice…in addition…my dad’s hospice nurse told us lots of different things to help us along the way…but most of what she said never came to pass….everyone is so different…and only God can determine whaqt will be. Meanwhile, manyt happy thoughts and prayers are coming your way!

Thank you Marion – I can feel the warmth in your words. I googled up at the top and found some info. I am going to ask the dr tomorrow if they have found cancer cells in previous taps – this has not been mentioned. Our hospice nurse says from what she has seen, my dad could have about a month. I guess I’m just grasping at everything and anything. My husband tells me not to try and put a calendar on it, but enjoy what we have and that is what I need to do.
Patsy….paracentesis has been mentioned before by many of our members. It really increases the comfort level and I am sure your Dad is looking forward to feeling better, tomorrow. I don’t have answer to your other question but, someone else may very well be able to respond to you in re: to that.

MarionTomorrow my dad goes for his 3rd paracentesis in a month. The first one 12/8, they took off 11 liters of fluid, then on 12/29 they removed 9.5 liters of fluid and we go tomorrow for the third. With the fluid building up this quickly in his abdomen, does this mean we are close to the end? Just wondered if anyone has dealt with this before.
