    Fatigue is finally what drove me to retirement. It can be debilitating.

    Sometimes fatigue is chemo, sometimes it is cancer. Perhaps indelicate, but does your dad have diarrhea? That can cause major fatigue from nutrition loss and dehydration.

    When on chemo, i take naps. Chemo is killing healthy cells as well so sometimes your body needs to rest from all the cells it is trying to repair.

    I also dont sleep so well when on chemo, the constant trips to the bathroom, the dry mouth all mean that I am tired when I get up.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Kay, we too couldn’t quite figure out the fatigue patterns for my Dad. I simply remember that he was always tired, but had a bit more strength on his weeks off. He was on Gemzar. Wishing your Dad the best….

    Kay…….in addition too the answers Jamie has provided, I am sure for many more to come your way. Don’t hesitate to repost your questions as sometimes the threads become lost. You can also use the “Search Function” on top of the page in order to read up on previous discussions regarding fatigue. Simply enter “Fatigue” (no author needed) and read away.
    Good luck and my best to your Dad. The fatigue may very well lessen within a certain time and then become dominant again, within a few days post chemotherapy. That seems to be the way it happens to most people. After a while those “off” days become predictable.

    Hi Kay;
    I’m not sure what chemo drugs he is on but you can get fatigue from chemo. It varies from person to person. I have some fatigue most of the time although 2nd and 3rd day after chemo I think I am the most tired.
    They would be testing his red and white cells and platelets because one of the side effects of chemo can be a decrese in blood counts. You can have fatigue from lowered blood counts also. It is great that his are “beautiful”!!
    Not sure if this helps, but I’m sure others will respond.
    Take care and God Bless,

    Dad had his 2nd treatment of chemo on Thursday. By Saturday he was getting tired and today he can barely walk he is so tired. I am assuming this is a side effect. My question is does it last for good now or will he regain energy and then get tired again after chemo.

    Doctor said his red / white blood cells looked beautiful. Not sure why they are testing that????

    Thanks for your help!!
