Hi Brian,
I have not had any medical treatment in the last three years, since I had radiation for a recurrence. My “treatment” is my own program that I’ve devised. I take a lot of supplements, practice qigong and meditation daily, have acupuncture once a week to strengthen my liver and immune system, and exercise a lot (running and in the gym.) I also try to focus on what I really want to achieve in life, and put most of my energy there.
I’m also blessed with a really wonderful oncologist near my home, who supports me and trusts my judgement. I had a bad experience at the big teaching hospital near me (University of Kentucky) and the Mayo Clinic was not very helpful FOR ME. It’s all a matter of finding someone whose philosophy fits with your own. I have an appointment and blood tests (liver enzymes and CA19-9) every two months and CT scans a couple times a year. If anything changes, we’ll go on from there.
Hope this gives you some useful ideas. My best wishes to you both.
Kristin

My brother is relatively new to cc. I would love to get the same news about him next year.
Can you tell me what treatment you are using and where you are being treated.
Thanks,
Brian

BEAN 1969- I JUST WANTED TO MENTION THAT THE BILE DUCTS ARE KIND OF THE PLUMBING IN OUR LIVER…AND SO WHEN YOU HAVE A BILE DUCT TUMOR IT CAN BE IN A FEW PLACES. IT CAN BE IN THE GALLBLADDER, THE LIVER, IN THE AREA OF THE PANCREASE. THNGS LIKE THAT. WHEN THEY TAKE IT OUT AND STAIN IT UP UNDER, TO LOOK UNDER THE SCOPE THAT IS HOW THEY FIGURE OUT IF IT STARTED IN THE DUCTS OR STARTED IN THE LIVER. SO BILE DUCT CANCER, THAT STARTED IN THE BILE DUCTS OF THE LIVER, IS STILL BILE DUCT CANCER. A LONG TIME AGO IT WAS ALL BUNCHED UP AS LIVER CANCER BUT NOW WE SEPARATE THEM OUT. GOOD NEWS IS, OUR STATISTICS ARE BETTER THAN A PRIMARY LIVER CANCER…ONLY MARGINALLY BUT I’LL TAKE THE STATISTIC THAT DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US FOR A CHANGE!
HOPE THAT HELPS. EVERY ONE OF MY 5 SIBLINGS AND MY MOM NEEDED THE SAME CLARIFICATION WAY BACK WHEN (OVER 2 YEARS AGO, I WAS DIAGNOSED.) YOU ARE NOT ALONE.December 31, 2009 at 5:15 am #33765beth-oSpectatorTHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU COULD HAVE RECEIVED HOW WONDERFUL OF YOU TO SHARE IT WITH US!

December 25, 2009 at 3:59 pm #33763bean1969SpectatorOh, congrats Kristin…any words of advice on how to stay healthy?
December 25, 2009 at 3:57 pm #33762bean1969SpectatorI am new here so I have a dumb question. With this diagnosis is it a given that it is in the liver as well or do some of you have only the bile duct tumor?
December 22, 2009 at 8:18 pm #33761marionsModeratorThe same to you, dear Lulu.
