It is with sadness in her family’s hearts to let you know that Barbara Lowe passed away on July 31, 2010 due to complications from Cholangiocarcinoma and Crohn’s Disease. She loved her family and friends dearly.

Barbara worked as a teacher and principal for over 20 years. In her retirement, she worked hard to secure a bond to build a new high school in her grandchildren’s community. That goal had become just one of her many reasons to fight her disease with desire and dignity.

She diligently followed this discussion board to learn more about her disease and share her knowledge with others.

Barbara never let her disease stop her from living her life, but the pain and complications of Cc and Crohn’s finally got the best of her and she died peacefully in her own bed. All who knew her will miss her.

Barbara, As other have said, you have the final say. My Jim did chemo and the whipple surgery. He was at the point that his treatment was not effective for the cancer. He, We decided to stop chemo. He had 4 great weeks, did what he could, went where he wanted. Then he was so very weak he continued at home with hospice, the love of the family and the help of God. He never gave up he got th see a grandson read for the first time. Another loose a first tooth. He was so blessed the be here for these first. But the fight was too much and he did pass on 6-5. He was peaceful those last few days. You need to make the final choice to stop therapy and fight on your own. You will know when the times comes to just live with all your heart. Prayers, Donna

    Barbara,
You can handle what you can handle and that is YOUR decision to make. Sometimes you need to decide between quality and quantity. You will make the best decision for you.

    Hi Barbara,

Only you know what is right for you and I know you will make the right decision as to your future. There are no right or wrong answers here, only the ones the are best for you. My husband was totally healthy and active when his symptoms started, although I am sure the CC was there for a long time, unnoticed. He never had a clue. He died 7 weeks after his first symptoms. Had he known sooner & been treated would he have had a full quality life? Would he have lived beyond 62? We’ll never know, but I take comfort in the fact that he didn’t have to suffer for a long time and didn’t have to make those decisions. It was taken out of his hands. I now believe that he would have chosen quality over quantity, as he felt like you even after those few weeks. Take care Barbara and let us know how things are going for you. We are all here for you.

    With Love & Hugs,
    Darla

Dear Barbara, it is so good to see your face again! We understand how you feel, Teddy is at your point now and I do believe that we know ourselves better than anyone. He explained to me that he can “feel” it inside. He knows that we have done all we can, the doctors are the best, and he is at peace with it all. Taking a trip home to spend 2 weeks with his kids and grandkids and then he feels, “bring it on, I am not afraid”. He is not giving up, he still has mountains of hope but he is tired of tests, surgeries etc, etc and he feels ready for what ever comes. Your decision is your own, you know best about yourself. If you take a sabbitical or decide not to do anymore Please keep us posted and know your decision will be the right one.
