    Hi Iowagirl,

Sorry to hear this news and yes, a temp could well be a sign of infection. Can you call someone other than the radiologist who did this procedure and speak with them about it? A trip to the ER could well be in order to keep on top of this and personally that is something that I would do. They will look into that that and take care of this there. Please let us know how you get on with this as well if you can.

    My best wishes to you,

    Gavin

My husband who has cc, has been told by his oncologist that anytime his temp. is over 100.5 he needs to be on antibiotics, but I’m sure this can be different for each patient. I suspect that you have an infection. Can you call the surgeon on call and have them give you a prescription for an antibiotic without them seeing you again. If not, can you go to an Urgent Care Center or would your only choice be to go to an ER? If I were your Caregiver, I would be a little concerned and if your temp goes up any higher, definitely get you to a Dr. Good luck!

I had a port implanted on Friday. Last night, I woke up with chills and very slight nausea….temp about 98.2, which is about a degree more than I usually run. By morning, i was 99.5….then up from there to 100. We called the radiolgist who did the procedure…and since the temp wasn’t over 101, and the skin doesn’t look red, he wasn’t concerned yet. This is, however, the same guy who initially told me in the OR that he was implanting some dialysis device. I told him no….and he said, “Why not.” AFter i told him because I’m here to get a chemo port, he wanted to know WHY. I had to further explain that it was because I had cancer and was starting chemo on Tuesday. The techs in the OR also had to remind him to flush the port….and now I can’t remember if he used heparin or not.

So, now I am kicking myself that I didn’t go back up to Mayo to have this done and start chemo up there. But that’s over and done with…so pushing on….

Has anyone run a temp or had very slight nausea aftr having one of these ports implanted? I don’t have a lot of confidence in this guy right now and don’t really know how to proceed.

This could be some garden variety bug that I caught while at the hospital…..but what to do. With chemo starting on Tuesday, the radiologist said I might have to hold off. I wamt to be proactive about this, but don’t know what to pursue yet…other than going to insta care walk in to maybe have a strep test.

    Any ideas…any thoughts.
