Hi Richard, welcome to the site and sorry you had to join us. Best of luck with your treatment. It sounds like you have a wonderful family to support you.

I am 32 with intrahepatic CC. I had a resection 5-11 and received 3 rounds of chemo with Gem/Cis, 6 wks chemo radiation with Xeloda and now back to 3 more cycles of Gem/Cis.

I’m glad you’re doing better on the Xeloda/Gemzar.

Best wishes and please keep us posted!

Thanks so much everyone for quick responses to my introduction. I have been on other sites and I have hardly gotten any response. I have a wonderful family that have kept me encouraged along the way. I have a loving wife and three children who are married and five grandchildren. Peggy mentioned Dr. Reid Adams at UVA. He was my surgeon and I was real pleased with him. I just wish I could have gotten the larger tumor out. Before surgery I was on Gem/Cis and that stuff liked to have killed me. I truly thought that if this was the way the rest of my life was to be let’s just get it over with. The Xeloda/Gemzar is better, but I still have my days. My oncologist keeps mentioning a break, but I have not seen one yet. I guess I’m supposed to ask for it? I have been planning weekend getaways on my off Chemo weeks, but I’m still tired. My wife and I are seeing the things that we never got to before. Time seems much more precious. We have been married nearly 40 yrs, but we are closer now than ever. Thanks again for your comments, thoughts and prayers.

    Hi Richard,

Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all but I’m glad that you’ve joined in with us all here. You have come to the best place for support and help and I know that you will get lots of both from everyone here. Not much I can add to what the others have shared with you about their chemo experiences as my dad never had chemo or surgery either. Thats great that you are still working and I hope that the Gemzar and Xeloda work well for you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and please keep coming back here and let us know how you are doing. We are all here for you.

    Best wishes,

    Gavin

Welcome, Richard. Just wanted to throw my $.02 in and say that my thoughts and prayers are with you. My first try at chemo did nothing either. Right now, my cancer is in the liver with some enlarged lymph nodes.Fortunately, no other organs involved at this time. I am going to give radioembolization a try next month to see if we can knock down what is going on in the liver, then we will decide what to do about the lymph nodes.

Richard…I would like to follow Pam and Peggy in welcoming you to our site. I am sorry to hear of the chain of events in that you had to undergo surgery only to find out that other tumors were present also. This happens frequently. I have learned that the true extent of the cancer only can be determined due open surgery as some nodules simply are too small for detection via our present scanning methods.
I am wondering about the previous chemo protocol – which therapy did you receive?
I am glad that you have found us and please continue to stay with us and share your experience.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

    Hi Richard,

We are practically neighbors; I live in Staunton, but am originally from Danville. My husband John was operated on at UVA by Dr. Reid Adams in August ’08. He was diagnosed with Stage IV intrahepatic CC. In March ’09 he presented with multiple tumors in the part of the liver that they didn’t remove. John started out with FOLFOX/Avastin; then he was on Gem/Cis/Avastin; and now he is on Xeloda/Avastin. We see his oncologist on the 24th to decide what our next course of action is going to be. Just hang in there and keep fighting the fight, and try to stay as positive as you can, because I believe that attitude plays a strong part in fighting this cancer. Sending lots of well wishes and a big welcome your way, PeggyP

    Hi Richard,

Welcome to our family. Nobody really wants to belong to this family but we are all here to offer support to you. My daughter Lauren, age 25 suffers from this disease as well. I am sorry you were not able to have surgery. Perhaps this new chemo cocktail will do the trick. My daughter is on Gem/Cis and 5-FU and is doing fairly well. Could you tell us a little more about yourself like age and family. I wish you all the best and I hope you come back and visit often. Take care.

I am new to this site, but not new to the Bile Duct Cancer. I was diagnosed on Jan 11, 2011. I started out with Chemo to try and decrease the tumor size. It is a 7.0cm x 7.2cm on the right side of my liver. The chemo did not shrink it any, so I went into surgery at UVA hospital thinking it would be removed. Upon waking up from surgery I found out that the surgeon had found more cancer on the left side of the liver and decided not to remove any. Now I am back on the chemo, Gemzar and Xeloda to hopefully control the tumor from growing larger. I have several small nodules of cancer in both sides of my lungs. I continue to work as much as I can. I find this site to be very helpful and can relate to what other folks are going through.
