Pam,
Welcome home my sweet friend. The doctors had to increase my Lasix after surgery because I had so much swelling in my legs and mid section. You are doing all the right things….you are one amazing Mom…..the relationship between you and Lauren is so beautiful.
Love ya
LisaApril 10, 2013 at 1:42 am #70210pamelaSpectatorThanks, Holly. I won’t worry so much then. Anybody got any tips for reducing fluid retention?
April 10, 2013 at 1:12 am #70209holly22aMemberOh, and no worries until the temp gets to be 101, or so I was told. I ran fevers up and down from 97 to 100.8 and back for weeks. The liver is apparently the site of chemical syntheses that help regulate body temperature and so that can just get a little out of whack. Plus your body has just been through so much, it is allowed to complain. Anyway that’s what my docs told me.
April 10, 2013 at 1:10 am #70208holly22aMemberOh, a joy to be home, for sure — but I know from all my rides back and forth from DC to NYC that traveling after surgery is no piece of cake – – every pothole is agony! So rest up, sweet Lauren, rest all you can. Don’t let the puppies jump on your middle, wish I knew something about fluids but I don’t. Glad to hear all your news! Hugs!
HollyApril 10, 2013 at 1:09 am #70207jathy1125SpectatorPam, Glad you made it home and nothing like a happy pup to make you feel so loved!! When I had my second transplant my legs were bigger than giagantic!! They said it was lypmadema (not sure about spelling) and they were wrapped daily by two types of industrial ace bandages, it took the nurse about and hour and a half to wrap them everyday. This went on for a couple weeks. I was told when I was discharged if this occured again to go to a clinic that did this. I know breast cancer usually have this problem in there arm and wear a special bandage. You might check with your daughter or Dr. Sonneday if this could be the cause.
Lots of prayers and HOPE-CathyApril 10, 2013 at 1:05 am #70206lainySpectatorDear Pam and Lauren, sorry I can’t help on the fluids so there is only one thing to say, WELCOME HOME GIRLS, WELCOME HOME!
April 10, 2013 at 12:46 am #70205pamelaSpectatorHi Everyone,
We are finally home sweet home!!! It took us two days as we stopped half way at my Mom and Dad’s. We got lots of TLC from them and some really comfortable beds, where Lauren got a great night’s sleep. We got home late this afternoon and our pups were so happy to see us after being gone for two weeks!! Lauren is very sore and tired from riding in the car. She said she was cold and I took her temp. It was 99.2. I hope it doesn’t go higher. I would hate to have to drive all the way back to Michigan! She is still really puffy from fluid. She is on 20mg. of Lasix once a day. It doesn’t seem to be helping much. Any suggestions for getting rid of the fluid? It is in her midsection, legs, and feet. I wrap her legs in Ace bandages and she wears them until it hurts too much and we take them off. She also has her legs elevated. I sure hope this goes away soon. We just got a call from Michigan and Lauren has an MRI scheduled for April 28 and a blood draw and visit to see Dr. Sonnenday on April 29. Lauren wants to attend her cousin’s wedding on May 4, so I’m sure Dr. Sonnenday will schedule her surgery for after that day. That is about it for now. Take care all.
Love,

This is great great news! I love to hear these success stories. Praying for lots of liver growth and a successful 2nd surgery. Lauren is very lucky to have such a great Mom! Having a “partner” through this battle is invaluable. I talked to Dr. Sonnenday over the phone when my dad was first diagnosed…he is amazing.

Somehow I missed this but just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you, Lauren and the rest of your family. Glad to hear about the surgery and hope that she is doing well with her recovery.

DarlaApril 8, 2013 at 5:17 pm #70202pamelaSpectatorThank you all for the well wishes for Lauren. I must say that I am quite uncomfortable with your praises for me. I am just a Mom taking care of her child like any Mom should do. Thank you, though and I’m so glad I have all of you in my corner.
Love you all so much,
-PamApril 8, 2013 at 4:17 am #70201dianecSpectatorPam,

So happy to hear Lauren is out of the hospital and coming along well. I’m sure it must have felt good to her to be able to walk outside. Sounds like she’s a determined young lady – good for her!!!
