    Dear Mark,

I am real sorry to hear what your dad is going through right now. I hope that you are able to get your dad seen again by the doctors asap and talk with him about what Marion has told you. Please let us know what they say to that and remember that we are all here for you.

Best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

Mark…I am so sorry to hear of the latest developments. This is what I have learned. You would want to discuss with the physician:
Metastases decrease the function of the liver leading to the buildup of bilirubin in the blood. Jaundice is a direct result of the livers inability to expel bilirubin.
    Hugs,
    Marion

Jaynes….chemotherapy has accumulative effects and the platin drugs are harsh on the system. Your husband’s blood test prior to treatment will present a clear picture of his counts. At this time, I would not worry too much; sounds as if your husband is tolerating things rather well.
Fingers are crossed for continuous success.
    Hugs,
    Marion

Hi all! Haven’t been on site for awhile. Things have been going pretty well. Ken has had 4 treatments and up until this last one, really tolerated it very well. This one, however, he is SO tired. He comes home from a half day at work and sleeps for another 2-3 hours. I am guessing the chemo is doing a number on his blood cells. His last treatment the red blood cells were just on the end of the low list but everything else was okay. He did see the physician’s assistant and she didn’t even mention the numbers, neither did the nurses, so we assumed even though a couple numbers were low, everything was still okay to go ahead. Did any of you out there experience similar effects? He goes again this Tuesday for another treatment and I assume they will take this into consideration. They warned us that the Carboplaten would affect his blood counts. Thanks for any information!

Sorry Mark, I forgot Dad is in Lebanon. All I can say is that when Teddy was shutting down he never Jaundiced. Is there a way you can talk to Dad’s ONC to find out what is being done for his comfort? To me that would be the most important thing now, his comfort.

Dear Lainy, the onc told me that he is too weak to have chemo :(( and that the cancer have spread all over the liver that have been resected but the bile ducts are obstructed so there is no need to place a stent, concerning the cyber knife we don’t have it Lebanon but I would be ready to travel anywhere if they have treatment for him I’m so sad I don’t understand how he can be jaundice without bile obstruction is that mean the liver is shutting down?

Dear Mark, I can’t help very much with medical advice, but I think as Lainy suggested it would be a good idea to get a second opinion, it seems awful just to say that there isn’t any treatment without discussing the options with you first. I know what that is like, as my dad is struggling to get any help and even to get the information he needs.

I really hope you do get some help for you dad and sending you my very best wishes to you and your dad.

Dear Mark, I am so sorry about Dad but would get a 2nd opinion very quickly. Have you asked the ONC about Cyber Knife? Has the ONC offered any suggestions at all? I just can’t see leaving someone Jaundice! Please, try to get another opinion. I don’t think vitamins will help at this point but perhaps a nutritious drink like Carnation Instant Breakfast. Teddy loved the vanilla and I would blend in a banana. This shake can be given in place of each meal and has all the needed nutrients. ALso as I said before there is a great cream for itching called Sarna. But Dad really needs some Doc who has some help to offer.

Hi I received the MRI and the blood test of my dad he is jaundice and itching and not eating anymore just a little he has ascite we thought he had bile obstruction and he could have a stent placed but the MRI showed no bile obstruction so no stent is going to be placed as his dr said no more treatment for him:( here is the MRI report is saying : intraheparic lesion the largest being at the periphery of segment vii measuring 8.9cm in segment iv 6.8cm and segment the largest of 5,4*3,9 effacing the bile duct that measures 1cm diameter in its extra hepatic segment interval appearance of a splenomegaly with a spleen measuring 17.2cm in span.. He was told that no more treatment for him I confused his ca19-9 is 220 and he is very weak barely can walk is there anything I can do to help him maybe some vitamins ? Or could he have chemotherapy in his case coz he is very weak at least I want to treat his symtoms any help will be very kind of you
